The problem they site for ABS based systems is the scenario of all four tires being equally low in pressure. We tested this theory and found that the old BMW ABS based system gave no alert even with all four tires below 10psi.

While it may seem unlikely that all four tires are equally low, keep in mind that tires can lose 1psi per month (all four...) and that psi in tires drops about 1psi for every 10 degree drop in ambient temperature. So if someone were to check their tires mid summer on a hot day and not check/maintain them again until a cold day in winter, all four tires could be dangerously under inflated.

Where are you finding TPMS sensors for $150? Seriously. Tell me so I can buy them. Only ones I've found have been north of $200.

I have been a tire installer for 10 years and am very familiar with TPMS.

First off the answer to the main question is yes. If your vehicle is brought into a tire shop with functioning sensors then under federal law, it must leave with working sensors with NO exceptions.

The only way around this is to carry loose wheel into a shop and take them home and install them on your car by yourself.

Secondly, many new auto manufacturer's are going back to using ABS systems for tire pressure reading as they are accurate enough and much less expensive.

Can you delete the code thru a jb4? I also find this tpms a pain. No real point because its a process called being aware of the condition of thebcar you drive.
I was wondering if you wouldnt delete the whole system in a sense by tuning the codes out? Or os there a place that sells them for less than $150 for a set?

Also i dont have navi so would that really create problems? Or would i be able to go thry my dash menu and rest it

Sorry for bumping...but it's good info, thanks!
