Post binaries in dbal directory

btw, if the binaries in the \dbal directory are indeed for the BMW NAVI system, the CPU architecture is the 32bit Hitatchi SH running VxWorks

The Nav DVD in South AFrica is about 400MB. So I can post that to an FTP site...

Apparently there are 3 or 4 processors in the CCC. The UI is Windows CE automotive - that is probably the Hitachi SH3 processor, because there is a Windows CE binary for that.

Anyone taken the CCC apart yet - I can't wait to see pictures of the PCB's in there.

Could it be that Navteq provide the DVD and binaries for VXworks and that a second processor handles navigation and interfaces through some agreed interface to Windows CE to display maps and provide directions. That would mean they use the same Chip and data basically for radio navigation, arrow navigation and full navigation and that BMW does not take responsibility for finding the shortest route for example. It is then a Navteq function.

I might have done it that way if I designed the system....

I really doubt that. That page is about the E38 750i, which was replaced in 2001 by the E65/E66.

If you open up the CCC, there should be a "boot loader" jumper of some kind. If the flash becomes corrupt due to update failure, you should be able to cold boot the system in some way. The dealers cant do this, thats why they send it back to the factory if upload failed - like in my case. They then replace the CCC.

The BMW agent who repairs all ECU's and radio units does not seem to be working on CCC's.

I am sure if there were someone on the forum with a CE Automotive license, they would be able to find some kind of ISP/JTAG interface on the board and figure out what CE services are referenced in the registry.

Anybody up to the challenge?

The E38 750i is quite different than the E90. For starters it only has ONE processor. It does not run MS Windows Automotive as far as I know. I also noticed a completely different LCD interface and it appears that the Navteq maps are different as well.

- rotate the iDrive controller 3 clicks clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 3 clicks counter-clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click counter-clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click clockwise
- press iDrive button

This one is mainly internal variables used by the developers for debugging it seems.

For the second one, you need to enter the 'Navigation' quadrant, and press the iDrive controller down until your at the bottom section, now highlight (but do not press!) the "Map, indicating dir. of travel" option, and follow the following steps..

- move the iDrive button to the top-right corner and keep it there for 10sec and release
- rotate the iDrive controller 3 clicks clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 3 clicks counter-clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click counter-clockwise
- rotate the iDrive controller 1 click clockwise
- press iDrive button

The rotations to get into the 2 menus are identical.
This second menu contains things like true speed, as measured by the GPS.

Lastly, the BC (BoardComputer), which is standard on all E9[012] cars, those with and without iDrive, also has hidden functions, but I have not really bothered with it yet.
tried out both these and neither one worked on my e90

They work for me just fine. Make sure you use a watch or something to count the seconds, make it 11 to be safe. If I do it by counting in my head it rarely works. Don't spin the controller too fast either when you're doing the clicks back and forth, a reasonable pace will be fine.

Need help with a step in hidden menu access instrux

I spent an hour trying this. No problem getting to hidden menu 1, but I don't get how to access menu 2. Please explain in extra detail how I "Move the BUTTON to the top right corner" as I can't understand how to do this.

Rob says:

Here's where I go wrong. I don't know if you mean move the controller as I have no button. Worse, my June 2007 335i controller can go right or up but not diagonally to the top right. While I have the "Map, indicating dir. of travel" option highlighted, I move the controller right or up and just get another menu, like the service menu. I try moving it to the right (to the small window) and then up, but no joy. I try going into the map dir of travel window and moving the controller right or up and no joy.

Please explain in extra detail how I "Move the BUTTON to the top right corner"

We already had a private message exchange, but just for the record....

It seems that the new iDrive controllers introduced this year (from March 2007?) is no longer capable of moving diagonally. As such the steps to enter the hidden navigation menu no longer work.

So presumably they have in the newer firmwares an alternative method of entering that menu, but unless someone does a lot of experimenting, or alternatively someone from BMW or a dealer leaks the information, the menu is inaccessible.
