Isn't it for phones that can play music via their bluetooth connection?

I decided not to spec it as with 6FL and the HDD playback facility, seemed pointless to play music off a mobile phone as well!!

6NF enables you to play AUDIO as well as take phone calls over the bluetooth link with a mobile phone / smart phone.

So you can browse the music folders on your phone via bluetooth in the same way you can browse music files on a usb stick.

The cradle is a only for charging and antenna, no point really.

edit - just read previous post - ditto....

Better than the snap-in which the dealer actually recommended wasn't worth my money.
Can you use the kensignton charge with the *** lighter socket in the arm rest or do you need to have a wire trhrough to the fonrt ash tray?

+1.

This is correct... not a maybe... correct.

I have looked at the signal strength on the nav screen with my iPhone in and out of the cradle, and it does not make any difference.

What do you have to do to play mp3s via bluebooth? I have the 6NF in mine and could only play muisc via the 6FL lead?

However, now I tend not to us ethe iPhone for music and instead put my songs on a memory stick, and when I like them, load them onto the hard drive.

The music on the iPhone isn't transferred through bluetooth if you have 6NF. If you have a 3G cradle, it plays music through the cradle, but not if you have something plugged into the USB at the same time.

I was initially really pissed off that my car didn't have 6NF as I figured my iPhone would be everything that I needed for music, communication etc, but after having the car for a few months I am glad that I am using a 32gb USB flash instead.

THis is for two reasons. On short journeys, I leave my phone in my pocket and don't plug it in, so the USB still gives music playback as it is plugged in permamnently.

2), my iPhone is limited to 14 gb of music and my iTunes collection is much bigger, so on the USB I have plenty of room for growth.

I find now that I don't use the hard drive at all as the playback can skip sometimes which is annoying. This never happens with the USB.

I must admit though, I find that signal reception IS better when the phone is in the cradle. Horses for courses!

JZ - How do you get to play the music off the iPhone through the cradle? I have the 6NF and cannot access the iPhone music when it is in the cradle.

I have not experienced the skipping with the hard drive (yet).

Finally you are correct; the cradle does give the iPhone aerial signal a boost; I confirmed that today.

iPhone 3G Snap-in Adapter

Hello

I've been reading this thread and I've some clarifications to make:

The snap-in adapter for iPhone 3G serves 3 main purposes:

1) Charger for iPhone

2) Better cellphone reception, because it uses the car antennae. This improves the sound quality of the call (noted by the receptor of the call)

3) Should allow playing your iphone music through the idrive screen, if you have the USB factory option for your car.

The problem is that mine isn't working to play the music. I'm checking with BMW this week and I'll post their comments.

Thanks

Are you using the correct cradle for 6NF? The appropriate part number ends with 043.

I have the 3G 6NF snap in but don't have 6NF option on the car. THerefore music doesn't show up in external devices on the music section of the idrive.

I just use the cradle for secure storage and better reception whilst plugging in a 32GB flash drive for all my tunes.

For the iPhone to transfer music to iDrive through the cradle you need the 6NF option and a 3G cradle. The iPhone music will appear on the music dection under a external device and as you go into it there will be all the music folders and playlists.

I have all of that on the FLash drive just without the playlists. ANd my flash drive is bigger than my itunes, which isn;t the same as my iPhone (why don't tey make a 32gB one!!!)

Cheers,

JZ
