Did I specifically mention the M2? No, I said, “automotive glass” which included the entire industry. I lastly said, “primarily.” If you bother to look at BMW NA’s sales figures, you will see what “primarily” entails in North America. It is not M2s, nor M cars in general. Those are not our bread and butter vehicles. Unfortunately the vast majority of automotive glass is produced in one of two places, China or Mexico. Porsche is currently having glass issues on 992s. Windshields are cracking on brand new vehicles that have not even been delivered. Their ‘lightweight glass’ is just randomly cracking as well. FYI, Saint-Gobain is the primary glass supplier to Porsche and they are currently having their fair share of issues with them. Clearly a subpar product is being provided to Porsche, more specifically for 992s, GT3s included. Edit, Added a photo of the windshield from my 2024 G01 LCI demo. I feel this conversation can veer nowhere good nor illuminating to anyone. Maybe not worth having an e-peen war (plus implied racism oof) about windshields.
Bottom line: we don't know shit right now, it's all speculation and anecdotes; small sample sizes and confirmation bias. So I guess believe what you want, because no one can prove yea or nea. Unless there's a rigorously conducted study I don't know about... (If it exists it would probably come out of a property and casualty underwriter research group.) |

You don’t say. I hate to break it to you, but other models, as well as other manufactures, and more specifically Porsche come up an awful effing lot here. Maybe if you had spent more than 1.5-2 months here you would be well aware of that.

Maybe the glass is more fragile because of climate change.
Jk, but I will say I drove tuned/modded VW’s and Audis in my early 20’s like a wreckless idiot often - and absorbed my fair share of highway rocks with zero chips/cracks over 100’s of thousands of miles. Less than 5k miles of mostly babying my first BMW and boom. Wtf. |

I drove 1,000km in the M2 and the first rock that hits it cracks the thing with a 2 foot long… Maybe it’s luck, but hence the thread here, as I’m observing a common theme that I have never seen before (in the E90post or 1addicts before this forum). |

Mine was nicked today on Arizona Rt. 101. Small chip on passenger side apparently small stone; road under construction.
Decided to have Penske Glass do chip repair (at residence within 3 hours) in lieu of windshield replacement/insurance claim. $68 out of pocket. Third incident on BMW windshields in past 4 years. |

My premium on both Arizona cars is due in March and I decided not to file a claim at this time, opted for simple repair. I pay annually so insurer cannot raise my premium after 6 months. Playing the long game. |

The BMW dealer (Penske group) in Scottsdale has a glass division offering repair and strictly OEM products. I decided to stay inside the family. I suspect a reputable third party would have performed similar quality work. YMMV
