Have you considered a 2019 330i with the b48 engine? It's the same as a B58 with 2 fewer cylinders, their tunable also. In the states there in the low $20's

Very tunable... I've been following Vehiclular DYI on YT and that guy has it figured out!

cad obviouly.

Got mine for 3500$ cad in 2019.
No check engine, no issues but a/c.
2008 , 240k km, sport pack, CCC, no rust and 6mt.

Very possible, there's now one at 4k$, but rwd, base model, non-tastefully modded but 6mt.

2 weeks ago, a fully loaded (but M pack), lci, blue ext, white int, low mileage, 6mt the guy askin 12k$. In 2 days it was sold.

Im looking everyday for a part out E91 for the LCI, and I see really nice prices.

Don't go F30 335, E90 is a better car for less money. 340 B58 definitely changes things but like you said, expensive.
Yall are just trying to get me in more trouble huh

If I had the option to retain stuff from my car it might have been a great solution!

oVeRdOsE. do you know at all if Quebec insurers can be finessed into giving you your totaled vehicle back?

depends of the insurer.

Most people are asking to tow the car back home and swap the parts before the insurer come to evaluate the car.

Car need to be complete during the evaluation, at least what is visible.

Most of the time, when the car is in a yard, they will accept only to take your personal item in the car.
After that, if you want to get some parts, it's more complicated, you need to negotiate with the insurer and the yard owner (safety matter). Its way more complicated, but everything is negotiable.

At the end, from experience and what I read on Qc forums : if you have valuable parts that are not declared, tow your car home. It will cost you 2 towing, but you'll get your parts back.
Yes you can get the car back, but it's often not the best option, since they probably wont give you much $ for the damage.
A guy wanted to buy back his lotus elise not so long ago (because good luck to find an other one), and the cost + salvage tile didn't worth it.

Great point, I have seen the VehicularDIY's video pop up about the B48 studf he is doing. I am reluctant to look into this for 2 reasons based on the principle again that I am trying to not spend much and understand that in a few years I'll be able to spend a large amount and buy something nice:

1) I am very familiar with N55 a bit less with N54 and I could find a fix for almost anything which would save me money and time. I could probably do some homework and do the same with B48 though.

2) When I get to my economical objectives in a few year, I'll be able to get a nicer car and keep the old capable N55 to do more crazy stuff with it.

This being said, I looked quickly at them to get an idea and keep it in mind and I am looking at around 25k CAD.

Yeah I was not aware/thought about towing the car home when it happened. Mistake learned I suppose.

Negotiating with my insurer (Intac) has been quite a hassle, they are really stuck up so I am doing my best.

I am eyeing another car equipped as well as mine but higher mileage than what I had (215k km vs 175k km) selling for a steep 12k. If I can lower the price to an acceptable value and conduct a compression test on the engine, it might be a decent way out.

Also found a GT version of a F30 335i with great mileage and decent pricing but idk how I feel about the GT yet hahaha.

Two great options, I tried using that M-pack with my insurers for a comparison. It seema in good shape.

The manual one is quite nice and alsmot modified to the same extent as I had but the seller left me on read when I inquired about it lol

Update, found a nice candidate 335i N55 xDrive car that I will inspect tomorrow and wanted to scan with ISTA.

Problem, my good K-DCAN cable from BimmerGeeks took a big toll over the years of letting it sit in my hot car in summer and freezer car in winter.

For this reason, the switch which when pushed to the right side bridges 2 pins was stuck and wouldn't more to the right position, meaning that my cable is stuck in K-LINE mode rather than K-DCAN.

I tried to fix the switch but it seems I broke it further and also teared the 4 power wirew comming from the USB. I resoldered the power wires from the USB but I think I might have mixed their orders and have no way to test it...

Yesterday I thought I would just order a K-DCAN cable from Amazon Prime so it arrives today and before I need it, but I must say I got what I was waiting for. Even though I knew it was going to be a cheap knockoff of a higher quality product, (BimmerGeek's Cable which isn't necessarily a gold standard but a robust electronic connection job) but I wasn'y quite ready for the disaster that it is... and I also made sure to pick a produxt with over 1000 reviews and 4+ stars.

I opened up the cable and it's quite a mess. 2 pins appeared to be shorted by some poor cold soldering job (unless I'm just a fool and they used a very terrible way to short these pins together) and some of the integrated circuits don't have labeling which is not a good sign... I guess I deserve it lol but was out of option.

I included a picture where on the top you can see the knockoff cable and the shorted pins.

I think I will just short my BimmeGeek cable into K-DCAN mode by soldering the bridging wires together and then try to figure our the order of the USB wires.

On USB plugs, the outside 2 pins are +5v and gnd. The inner 2 pins are serial data. I'm not sure if crossing over the middle pins would make a difference? But the outside pins you'll want to get right! Obviously it's total speculation that the wires would connect to the board in the same order as the plug...

Felt like updating you all on the outcome.

I am still fighting with the Insurances, trying to really take everything I can from then and I will see if I can buy back my totaled 335i from the auction. Extra engine and transmission wouldn't hurt me too much if the car is withing the low thousands.

Every E90 335i I went to check were quite claped to say the least. Had a good contender with low mileage but seems like thr car was overheating and coolant tank was covered of purged fluid making me feel like the car has bern driving roughly for a while. Already putting it to work!

I was quite out of options but then I stumbled upon a 2015 E84 X1 35i M-Sport with 127,000 km for around. It was 2 hours away from me but I went to check it. I really liked it, handles exceptonaly well and I couldn't tell the difference with my 335i.

Decided to go ahead with that car and make them do a compression test to ensure everything was good. Quite happy I managed to find a fun E series and retain the power steering. I picked it up yesterday and here she is.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, helped me lots and I appreciate the time and effort.

Man, you too? I spent about $2k in January on my 2011 335i 6 MT getting all kinds of service (new battery etc.) and then in March I was in a low speed collision. There was enough damage that the insurance company declared it totaled. I had all kinds of mods on that car, B12 Pro kit, Mfactory LSD, Pure Turbo stage 1, upgraded intercoooler, etc.

Anyway, recently bought a 2022 M235i auto. The dealer had a low mileage 2023 M240i with an N55 engine but it was a little more than I wanted to pay. I looked at the 0-60 times and they were pretty comparable (4.5 seconds for the RWD M240i vs 4.6 seconds for M235i xdrive). I miss my 6 MT but am having a go at using the paddle shifter.

Ahhh yeah, crazy how fast things happen, sorry to hear that brother.

Not going to lie, I still think about the whole accident pretty often and it bums me but hey it is what is it.

I really did everything I could to get my car back. Tried everything with insurance and they were just being anal. Fine. Found it at the auction lot, got someone I know with a dealership license to try to bid on it but the auction didn't even last 30 minutes when its suppose to last a full day. Fine, some sketchy deals with scrapyard lots of course... Would you look at that, I find it being announced as a new arrival car at said scrapyard a few days later. I go there on Sunday (had an event on Saturday) when it was posted on Friday. Already 3 guys on my car taking all the mods and trying to get the engine out. My fault for not going earlier but man I could not catch a break or a tiny bit of luck... Worst part is I had to give tips to these guys about how to get the engine out in the most optimal way.

Anyways, there are a bunch of things I miss with this car, there are a bunch of things I regret and so it is with almost everything in life. BUT one has to move on and focus on the positives in other things cause if not than you're just wasting your energy and health on bullshit you can't change.

Big congrats on your new car, looks amazing and extremely fun and I know for a fact you will enjoy it. Super happy you found a great alternative to the one that is unfortunately done! Give it time and all will be fine.

So when should I start this gofundme to purchase this cheap $27,000USD N55R26 de-stroked race engine to put it in the X1

Yes, mine was such a stupid accident! I still think about it. I am usually very careful and don't follow closely. I was switching lanes as I had to make a left turn at the next light. This was a road with a divider and 2 lanes in either direction. There was a young girl in a Lexus - she saw the fire engine and slammed her brakes on, even though we were in a divided road. The guy behind her slammed into her and then he released his brakes so his brake light wasn't on. I was changing lanes and was temporarily distracted by the fire engine with its lights and siren on coming from the opposite side. I looked down and sw I was approaching the car in front of me and slammed on my brakes. But he was already stopped so I slid into him and had front end damage. The car was still driveable.

I was really emotional when they towed it away. I loved that car - it was just such a blast to drive. The Mfactory LSD had automatic gearing so on my 6 MT it was insanely fast off the line. I remember once an M3 pulled up next to me at a red light during the day (I was going to yoga class). I didn't know it was an M3, I just did my usual accelerating off the line and totally out accelerated him. I backed off when I reached the speed limit and it was only after that the M3 passed me and I realized there had been an M3 next to me.

Best wishes to you on your automotive journey!
