I've been having the exact same issue, except for me it's crackling woofers, and intermittent cutting in and out of random speakers. Just like OP when I crank it everything comes back on. Base stereo (no tweeters) upgraded to Alpine 4ch amp with the MB Quart BMW set. It's driving me crazy. Already had some "pro's" come look at the wiring to try and figure it out and of course it then works perfectly but it keeps coming back. No idea what to do at this point

I've had it cut out once more, but then it came back and its been fine for weeks. Sorta living with it since I don't feel like blindly replacing sections of the audio harness.

Do you think the harness from the HU is the culprit for sure?

Unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge about this stuff to pull everything apart (or another amp to hook up and test). But even the guy I hired couldn't figure it out. It's so frustrating.
