Or they bought it the years of the "Value Package" which included it for free. Which is why my '11 328i has leather.

I imagine this varies by area. Where I am e90s without leather are *extremely* rare, since e90s without the Premium Package are extremely rare. Would have had to be special ordered, as the local dealers certainly never stocked any. I guess in places where people bought the cheapest possible "lease specials" from high-volume dealerships they would have been more common.

Amusingly, being a cheap SOB had leather not been free in 2011 my wagon likely would have vinyl. But then at the last minute I did end up ordering the Premium Package - since leather was free it was quite cheap, and I decided I could not live without the lumbar support adjustment. But if that package had been full price including the hides I would likely not have gone for it.
