Lexus Is-f

Would the Lexus IS-F be a bang for the buck?

It's a very different car and a lot more expensive than the 1. I've driven my boss's and it sure does move and it handles well. Very nice Lexus interior but I still prefer my 1.

Too expensive/heavy for me. Plus doesn't it have something completely ridiculous like a 8-speed gearbox? What's even the point?

It's a big buck. Toyota's attempt to copy the M3. As they do so often, they get some things right, but just can't match (much less exceed) the overall handling feel. Stay with the original unless you just want an approximation with the superb customer coddling that Lexus offers (and that BMW still can't equal).

Car and Driver November edition, they race 30 fast cars around a big 3 minute tracks. The IS-F is slower than the 135i.

What makes you think it will do so on the street?? There is no evidence that the DCT pales in comparison to Lexus' 8speed. I've researched all the 0-60, 5-60, 30-70etc. and there isnt much of a difference either way. I didnt do it b/c I was in the market unfortunately. : ( I did it for fun. From what I've read, there is no major reason to explain why the Lexus isnt pulling faster than the manual tranny M3 from down low.

I was referring to the outperforming it on the street comment. I do agree on the reliablity aspect and better looking interior. The seats I disagree on though. Those looking for a normal daily driver would opt for the 335i or 350. :-/ The //M is still the jack-of-all-trades IMHO.

Being the proud owner of an '04 IS300, I think Lexus has lost its way with the new generation IS by replacing some of its fun-to-drive character with increased luxury, size and weight. The IS-F is a very capable car, but its overengineering, weight and lack of a true manual transmission makes it a no-go for me (plus the price of course!).

And knowing that the 135i edged out the IS-F in the C&D Lightning Lap will give me a nice warm feeling when I return back to the BMW family in a couple years time with the purchase of my 135i

nope, it's still partially on

you have to do this nintendo shit with the brake pedals to fully disable it, then it lights up a new warning light on the dash

here's a video that shows how, it's almost as hard as getting the gps to accept commands while your driving, I think the last version disabled that too

Inded, the Cobalt SS humbled many a car costing much more. It kind of threw many of us off our proverbial high horse...

My wife drives a 2007 IS250 (used to drive an X3), so I'll throw my two cents in regarding the interior. The interior of the IS-F is the same. In one word...Cramped. The IS is not very big inside. The seats are incredibly comfortable, and the fit and finish are great...but it is numb to the driver. Nevertheless, the IS250 is a great car. I'm not sure if Toyota will ever capture that feel that BMW has mastered.

My biggest complaint, you can't use the Navi while moving. :eyebulge:
