Thanks, but I have tried a 318d courtesy car last week while mine was in the dealer's, and it was pretty much the same as mine: jerkiness exactly the same if not worse, gearbox maybe a bit less notchy, clutch pedal wild stiff. I mean, I'm not a weakling, but pushing that thing up and down in traffic becomes a real PITA.

I doubt it's to do with driving experience. I'm no driving God. That's why I wondered out loud if the CDV had been changed on the new cars. I have been driving BMW's with CDV's for 10 years or so, so I may well have simply got used to it. Either way, as per my earlier post in this thread I'm pleased to hear that this has solved some of your problems and that you are enjoying your car |

Sometimes I kangaroo the car at low speed when I'm not concentrating, usually when tired. Where are Speed Religion and what's the cost. I'm just south of Manchester.

They are in Warrington, easy to get to, just off the M62. Patch these coordinates into multimap and you'll see: WA3 6QT I stopped off there on the way to work the other day, was on my way again in about an hour. A handfull of tenners was all it cost. More than worth it. |

the mechanic i use said my flywheel on the cluctch was more likely to explode! apparantly its happened on a few instances he said (not sure if it was e9x related) i cudnt respond to him cos i didnt know what that meant lol. other than that yes theres more drivetrain shock if u were to give it some beans? cost was half an hour labour. warranty wise i highly doubt they will pull out my CV and cheque to see if i have taken the end out... theres absolutely no way u can tell from looking at it cos its exactly the same part as the stock one...

Apparently it would be very difficult for BMW to tell it had been modified at a glance so shouldn't be an issue from a warranty perspective unless you decide to mention it to them.
If driven at 100% for 100% of the time I think this would cause extra wear on the drive train but the majority of drivers will adapt to driving in the correct rythmic manner we were all taught to before BMW decided we needed some assistance. I had the CDV modified on my 130i at the weekend and all I have noticed in this extreme weather is a smoother clutch/gear action and the accelarator now feels more responsive, I know thats not the case as the mod only alters the clutch action but the overall driving experience has improved. Ant at speed religion did the work on mine too, very highly recommended with first class service.

Thanks for the responses, i've heard so many good things about the mod and i want to get it done so bad! it makes me look so bad when the car rolls back and forth going off the line. its like everyone's thinking that i have no idea what i'm doing (and i actually really do!).... .... first i have to convince the parents that it won't destroy the warranty since its used you know.

Thanks 'illingworth' for relighting this thread. I'd read about the CDV on a Z4M forum but hadn't linked it to my 330d. I feel my car is jerky upon gearchanges, especially low ratio relaxed changes (with the family onboard) and was thinking it was me.
Might have to call Ant at Speed Religion to get a cost and talk through the process (any negatives not mentioned here). I'm sure Mr Mellish will be here soon to perhaps provide the cost (if willing to disclose).

Ant, is there anything we should be aware of before making this modification. I've read about extra stresses as a result but is this really a huge issue as long as you're not driving like a loon 100% of the time. Would BMW realise (or even check) if there was ever a clutch, gearbox inspection, for whatever reason.
Might pop over sometime for you do drive mine to see if you think there is anything that needs improving. My missus will be getting my 330d in 2 weeks anyway so might not be worth messing with.

BMW will never know and you have nothing to worry about. You will not look back. Get the mod done and have the car that drives as it allways should have. And regards the BMW Tech that thinks the clutch and flywheel would EXPLODE, that just shows how little he knows really... ant. |

I'd love to have the CDV changed on my car but I'm nowhere near Warrington to go see Speed Religion.
Can anyone recommend a shop in Essex/Suffolk where I could get this done by someone who knows what they are doing? Stu |

Take a look in the US Diy section and you might try the mod yourself it looks that easy. Any competent mechanic could do it. PMW in Chelmsford are BMW specialists and I can personally recommend them.
