What am I missing here? How is the IMP a better solution than the Belkin that has been mentioned before. I looks like a slightly different implementation of the same solution. Is it just a thinner wire or something? Thanks.

I already have that IAirPlay on ebay since that didn't fit. I can't imagine putting the Belkin on ebay and getting this one now.

Damn it would of been SO pimp if they just had a connector that gave where the aux input is that gave readouts, playlists and all that stuff on the stock LCD.

That would be a dream come true.

It's basically the same thing, but from what I've read on ipodlounge, the imp has a little better quality. Personally, I don't like the volume control on the Belkin (I think it does have a volume control). However, I have not tried the Belkin. I just bought the imp and I'm happy with it.

Hey, where did you get that short min 1/8 to mini 1/8 wire? Its hard finding high quality ones, and especially ones that are so short. That one looks perfect in the bottom picture.

That wire was custom made by one of our members, I think FusionNV, if I remember correctly. I pulled that photo from one of his posts where he tells us about his setup. Do a search, and you'll find it.

The volume control is a MUST. The Belkin gives a line level boost that acts as a peamp for the iPod. The volume control levels out the iPod's low output so you arent blasted to bits if you switch to the radio or CD. The Belkin's sound is excellent, with zero hiss or noise. Playing high bitrate MP3's, the sound is CD quality.

Not only that, but it sounds pretty rediculous, if you ask me. Sounds like a hack. Cars with navigation have nice big screens and i-drive is supposed to be the central console. Now why a different screen with obviously different controls as well?

To me it looks as if BMW is unable to really get something integrated in the system and is now trying to sell a hack for probably a lot of money.

Well my connection had a close look at the production version that will be available in the next few months

Unfortunately this one is NOT for cars with Bluetooth or Bluetooth preparation or cars with Logic 7( they are apparently still working on that one ), and you must have multifunction buttons on the steering wheel

Now the retrofit iPOD kit puts a iPOD connector under the armrest, so the iPOD lies in the llittle tray

A little screen is addded between the 2 vents on the centre of the dashboard ( logic 7 has a speaker here, thats why this doesnt work for it )

You can then controll the iPOD from the steering wheel and read on the screen what you normally read on the iPOD. The sound is then played over the stereo through the new cable that connects to the radio through the AUX IN ( all you see is a small plug in the Aux IN, the IPOD connecor and the new screen )

He says it all looks and sounds very good

AND software is comming to play DVD Mp3's one of these days if you have navigation.

Sorry no pics yet, but kit is ready and should be available soon

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I was having a browse through RealOEM and they already have a part number listed for the iPod Connection Retrofit Kit. No pricing details yet. Anyone have anymore news?
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...22&hg=65&fg=95

The link has the car as a 320d (mine) but I also checked a US 330i and it shows up with the same part number. It looks promising

Do you happen to know if this is similar to Denison Icelink? Will it display track information etc. through navigation screen?

Just looked up that iPod Adapter part, and it is listed for US 330's post sept. production. So, I guess they figured out the MOST compatability.

Looks interesting! Fleet, any info? This could be more exciting than the 335i, and could influence me on whether or not I bother getting an iPod nano for my fiancee

Looks like Benz at least has the right idea. Instead of these half-assed hacks that BMW is employing, they provide a neat tidy solution in the glove box, and full control via the vehicle's existing controls and displays - now that is true class. BMW needs to wake up.

Nope they haven't i'm afraid.

I took that part number down to my dealer and they said that although it was available it couldn't be fitted to my car because it had DSP (Logic7) fitted.

Any news on when the IPOD connector kit will be ready for the E90 in the US market? If it is not too far away I want to hold out so I can get the full functionality throught he stero and steering wheel control.

Logic 7 iPod

I had the same reply, that "it can't be used because I have the Logic7". I was wondering that if the only reason for it not fitting is the display, what if I just go ahead and install it and forget about the display...? I will go down to the dealers tomorrow, and try to find out more about it.
