I've just checked - actually I have 33.0.0 (edited my previous post) and I've had that since it first came out (two months ago perhaps ??)

I changed my chip to beta 1.3 and it never came back. Could be a sensor or something since it's happening on stock software as well. If u could duplicate it I would take it in to the dealer. What flash do u have ?

I thought you may have been updated to 33.0.0 after the DP install.

I originally thought it must have been the downpipes, which due to the decreased back pressure is allowing the turbos to spin up faster and perhaps overshooting the boost target. However, i think i'm right in saying that reducing the back pressure on the turbos also decreases real-world boost ... is that correct ??

Thinking that the tune/downpipes was causing the 30FE code and subsequent limp, I got the car flashed back to BMW OEM values... all fault codes were erased and I tried again. Same thing - limp mode due to overboost.

I'm now thinking that this is more than the downpipes having an effect - surely if it were to be the downpipes, it would have happened much sooner than after three weeks / 2000 miles of driving ?!

Any thoughts? Stuck wastegate actuator perhaps? Boost control valve malfunctioning?? I checked the OEM diverter valves - no problems there. The 30FE code only happens when I'm on the highway, pulling constant part-throttle in 4th/5th/6th gears. Doesn't happen when I'm WOT in 1st/2nd/3rd - I assume that's because the car acceleration is so fast that the boost values aren't held for long enough to cause an overboost...

Can anyone (Shiv/Mike etc) help ?!

(Incidentally, running MDS80 and ISTA 33.0.0)

Can anyone help ??

I think if there was something else other than software it would throw a different code. I had a vanos solenoid sensor changed because of this exact code. But I also threw a different code as well. I would say it's software related.

Similar Issue

Hi..

Did you fix your problem? I have the exact same problem.. Installed Supersprint Catless Downpipes and a Remus Quad Muffler.. After driving by 300 KM I started receiving 30FE and Limp...

Cant seem to find the problem... and I dont know if its the downpipes.. because code started 300 Kilos after...

Car also has JB4 and a Blow off valve.. BMS Air Intake

30FE
Ambient Pressure: 997.66 hPa
Ambient Temperature: 18.0 C
Pressure in front of throttle body: 250 kPa
Speed: 4,672 RPM

My car has been throwing the 30FE code for a while now and i cant seem to figure it out. I just tuned my car with a Cobb AP and was able to read the code but it was doing it for a while before i tuned the car. Like E92Fan it only happens in 4th,5th,6th when pulling part throttle and increase slightly to speed up around some one and it will go into limp. I can record the logs on the car to see if there is something wrong there but havent gotten a chance yet.

Overboost code.
ECU Boost over ECU Target.

Perhaps your wastegate is sticking. Which you can see in logs looking at wastegate duty cycles.

Or perhaps you might need to forward your question to COBB for their advice.

If it was happening before the tune then you may want to see the dealer with the tune uninstalled.
