Plus you said you just got a $15 an hour job. Saying you have 0 now, and he car costs $40,000 ish, you'll have to work 2666.67 hours or 111 straight days until you can afford it. I think you have awhiles to go.

As stated above, I worked long and hard in order to get my ride. My dad took me into his company(he owns a company, yet another thing we share) then I went this local electronics store, and now, I'm a manager at another laptop shop up in Hagerstown, MD. |

Truth be told you got caught. Most of us have too. I would go to court, plead guilty & request supervision or do it by mail if the citation lets you.
In your case its simple. If you contest, the judge will look you in the eye and ask you (you would be under oath) if you were driving the car that day and did the officer pull you over. The second you admit it, the typo is irrelevant. If you deny it was you, then you just lied under oath and the cop (if there) would visually I.D. you and your screwed. If you plead the fifth, then cop will I.D. you and you get the ticket anyways. Since I was 16 (20 years ago), I've gotten a ticket every 2 or 3 years. Luckily none are on my record because I've had 6 month supervision on each of them, some with traffic schoool (online and in-person). Yes, its frustrating because some tickets feel ridiculous but I am responsible for my actions. (my last ticket was about a year ago in the city for Failure to Signal, no turn signal during a lane change at about 15mph! I paid the fine, did the online course. Now its gone from my record) Remember, be extra careful to not get another ticket while on supervision. Good luck.

Hey ChicagoLab, do you have any more information about Court Supervision on a ticket? All I could find is something about Illinois, but that doesn't work for me because I'm in California.

Reading a little about CA, you are on a point system. Traffic school may be an option to get the points off your record.

You can't get the ticket dismissed because of a spelling error. If your record is clean, then go to court and tell the judge your story. Often, the State is willing to reduce the fine even further just by showing up to court. Clean yourself up before court and behave like a good boy scout in front of the judge.

First off, I don't think this thread is full of fail. Does no one here speed? I used to speed like the dickens and have been pulled over 9 times since I got my car 2 years ago. (I've gotten out of every ticket but 1, but that's another thread).
Secondly, as many have said, the mispelling is immaterial. Thirdly, NEVER say anything to the LEO. NEVER admit guilt. NEVER offer excuses unless you really know what you are doing. Most times, everything you say will end up in the report that goes to court with you. Finally, go to court. Plead no contest, and offer an explanation to the judge. The LEO won't be there for this to argue the facts as you are not disputing them. Bring in your friend's hospital admission form (explain you have his permission to do so), and tell him you were going to see him in the hospital. Your mind was full of worry. There is something called medical emergency, and although you were not necessarily involved in his safety or well being, the judge may be lenient if it's your first offense and he may interpret the medical emergency clause in your favor. Pay very close attention to the judge's behavior with the defendents that go before you to gauge what you can try / get away with. This is an example of the surprise expenses people were talking about in your other thread. With the BMW, it may be even moreso. The BMW makes it VERY easy to exceed the speed limit without even feeling it. If I had all my tickets on my record, I would have neither the BMW nor my license right now. GOod luck! |
