Michelle, thanks. I'll PM you my contact info.
BMdblU, I'm still in Edmonton. We didn't know we'd be moving to Ontario until several weeks ago actually. That's the way it goes for medical students. (they graduate and go on to residency but they're really assigned a place to work/live). I drive my E90 in the winter here but in Toronto but there's a lot more salt on the roads as compared to here. So now I need to buy a winter beater too. In hindsight, had I known I'd be going to Toronto, I'd get an M3 instead or just go without x-drive. It's not a huge loss though because awd is still very good for rain and I will be staying here for at least one more year so I'll need AWD. (Might end up selling my winter tires and rims though). |

Oooops I really didn't know that was your handle Gabe!
I never come in here to post. I been a member in this forum for awhile now under BABY_GURL but I'm usually just spying around looking for parts for my BMW. Wish everyone can just wear name tags! hahahaha. |

Soni's condo is gorgeous.... even better now that he has a pimp plasma TV in it!
I think it will be very hard to find a condo with THREE parking spots though... |

"On Thursday, the Ontario Liberal government introduced in their 2009-2010 budget a plan that to blend the federal GST with the provincial sales tax. On new homes, where GST is already included, that will apply another eight per cent provincial tax to houses worth more than $500,000. New homes worth under $400,000 will not face the additional tax, while those between $400,000 and $500,000 will pay the tax but get a rebate. " and "The provincial government was quick to note that 73 per cent of homes bought in Ontario last year were resales, which means that the majority of buyers won't be slapped with the entire tax plan. Yeah...I talked to Michelle (Mishka_L) about that. She said it's really tough to find and to buy one is about $30,000. I should just go to the bank, borrow $100 and have them keep the beater car as collateral during the summer. Then bring the $100 back and get my winter beater back. If interest rates are hmm say 5%, that's $5 to have them park my car for all summer. Score!! j/k But yeah, I think realistically we'll just get two cars. I mean Ontario winters aren't THAT bad on the 335 and if it's close enough to the hospital (i.e. walking distance) then there's no need for the third car. We'll just have two and if she needs to drive far, I'll take the 335 to work instead of the beater. |

you should be fine with Xi and winters.....what a waste of car if you didn't plan on driving it in the winter time with AWD....i have winters on my car and it was great....depending on where you end up working, you would be even better off just taking public transportation...our subway system is good....buses...i don't know and would never take one, lol.....

just to add to the discussion....you should also consider the price of parking downtown. Parking spots in condos can cost $20-30,000 (if they are not included). Some condos come with only one spot. Since my building has no parking, I park in a neighbouring building for $175/month for a nice, carefully selected spot with a wall on each side so no door dings
![]() Also, if you plan on parking at Sick Kids / St Mikes or anywhere downtown, expect to pay about $15/day or $100-300/month for monthly. Quote:

Lol well the thing is Ontario uses so much salt on their roads it's bad for the car in general. So I'll try not to drive too often in the winter I guess. I just don't want my 3 series turning into the beater. :P
I'll probably try to take transit but being an engineer, it's most likely my job opportunities will be in Hamilton (apparently I'll get used to the smell after a while). However, one of the companies I might go to is located in North York so... Anyway yeah, I figure that most places come with one stall only so I'll most likely have to buy a second spot. 3 series takes the better spot. Some condos have semi-private stalls? I think if we can, $350,000 is our limit. $150,000 more for a few extra square feet if I'm planning on moving to the suburbs later on might not be worth it. Heck, I could use the extra money and pay some guy to drive me around everyday instead. But yeah I'm starting to see how expensive Toronto is. And you guys make less than us in Alberta for salaries? (I'm already expecting to take a slight pay cut in my job to move to Ontario according to the salary surveys). |
