Steve. My car was down a bit yesterday and after a lot of testing it looks like me using Tesco99 isn't as good as using VPower as the loss was totally parallel to my last run with them, the fueling plot indicated this. The exhaust has improves things, but TBH, not a lot in real terms +6bhp tops, putting me back to where I was before with VPower. Will be interesting to see what effect the remap gives... it feels stronger today that it was yesterday, so the overnight rest and cold start this morning is getting the ECU settled. We'll see... it felt a little better over 5,500rpm and at 7,000rpm it felt to be pulling stronger. Speed limiter is now off too

Just shows you that it is worth paying that little bit more for the higher grade fuel. I'd love to know what sort of top speed the car can reach now with the limiter removed - anyone got any idea what the top speed could be now??

Found this on youtube 328 kmh
Thats 203 MPH its probably been modified though! 17935 feet per second I doubt a stock M3 can do that! |

I think that the unlimited top speed of a stock car is 182mph... which is pretty feckin quick !
In my 996 C2 I did an indicated 165mph and after 120mph aerodynamics really play into how quick you can go. Compared to my B6 S4, the Porker cut through the air like a knife at the same speed. Think the M3 will do ok. I've been trying to get to a PH VMAX event, but they are always get booked up or have been on days I can't make... anyone know someone at Brunters that could open the gate for an hour |

Brunters is 2 miles long, but a 450bhp M3 wont see anywhere near 180mph there unfortunately.
A murcielago only reaches 180+ there and also when i was there for a mag thrash a 550bhp 911 turbo could only muster 180 genuine mph. No doubt the M3 can do that de-limited, (a 535d has done 175mph) but just not at brunters.

HI Guys,
I am really surprised that no one actually asked any questions about the first graph! +26bhp from an NA car which just happens to be a highly tuned M3. All from just a simple remap! The intake temps are taken from inside the airbox, they are always going to be higher than ambient (10 degrees difference is perfectly acceptable and only accounts for roughly 2-3bhp worth of correction). As the temperature difference rises however the correction factor gets larger and larger. Example: +10 may give 2-3 bhp of correction, +15-20 will give maybe 8bhp but but 30-40 degrees will give not 8-10 bhp but 20-30bhp! It's not a linear relationship. Simply get an OBD datalogger and see what the ambient and intake temps are out on the open road - you'll find them to be different between 5-10 degrees always. The difference in the graphs is NOT power but simply two power runs done in two different gears within maybe 10 mins of each other. The engine is under going much more load in 4th gear than in 3rd and this effect is very isolated to the new M3 and new M5. On E46 M3's, E39 M5's, E34 M5's, E36 M3's the gear makes no difference to what power is read. These current M ECU's work a little differently. The test is done to show you clearly one thing - these cars run on a load bearing dyno like the dyno dynamics will read false in 4th gear. 3rd gear is the recommended gear as stated by Dyno Dynamics as it keeps the wheel speed at a maximum of around 100mph. 3rd gear will give you a consistent 415-425bhp from an M3 which is bang on the money. It will give alot less if the car is running on 95 octane fuel. The lowest powered M3 which was running on 95 octane gave 395bhp. 4th gear on a STANDARD car will give no less than 440bhp consistently. So if your presented a graph of an E60 M5 or E9x M3 on a Dyno Dynamics machine showing great and mighty power you MUST ask what gear the car was run in. The gear inputted by the operator means nothing, ask for the graph with road speed at the bottom axis. You'll then know!
