1) Remove the original knob by pulling straight up
2) Insert the threaded ring onto the gear lever 3) Insert the corresponding rubber adapter onto the gear lever 4) Insert the new shift knob by pushing down 5) Screw the threaded ring onto the the shift knob The Momo knob I used also comes w/ three allen screws that are meant to be inserted into the corresponding threads in the shift knob, then tightened uniformly to secure the shift knob to the shift lever. I did not use these as the knob was tight enough using only the rubber adapter. Not using them also allowed me to insert the shift knob lower, because the threaded ring eventually bottoms out against the shift boot.

No, just depress the brake pedal. After a day or so you'll forget the button ever existed.

I like it. Not a bad idea.
Can you measure how tall this knob is? I'm afraid that it will not really be tall enough for me to grab with all 4 fingers. Maybe 2-3 it seems. Thanks.

I'll post this up just in case someone wants to try it.. it is NOT required to depress the brake pedal for you to change your gears. Let's just say I've done it before while driving... slipped it into R and pulled it back..

It is necessary to depress the brake pedal to move the car out of Park. That's what I assumed armoredsaint was asking. And you would naturally have your foot on the brake when placing the car into Park, because you would be stopped and ready to secure the car before exiting. On the other hand, if you were driving along at speed in D and shoved the gear lever into Reverse or Park, I'm sure the computer system would intervene, just as if you did so with the stock knob while holding the button in. At what speed that would happen, I don't know. In a slow-roll parking situation, maybe you could accidentally shift the car from D, to R or P, and do some damage. What happened when you, "slipped it into R and pulled back?" That's not something I want to try Anyway, I don't drive in D, and shift the car "manually" using the steptronic system, where the gear lever sits over to the left.

The stocker is 4" tall and the Momo is 3" tall, but I have the Momo sitting lower on the gear lever so the final difference in height is approximately 2". However, I don't see how the height has anything to do with how many fingers you grab the knob with. I don't give my knob a four finger grip, only two over the top

ehh, you get points for the effort.... im just not sure that knob pulls it off. it looks quite off to me...... its a great idea, but it just needs better execution.

yeah I know.. I was fixing the way the knob was sitting and it accidentally went over to the right and moved up. it didnt "shift" back to R or anything but the dash had a light that lit up for a split second.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "better execution." Maybe you think it doesn't match well or looks awkward? It is, after all, a MT knob sitting next to an AT gear selection display; I'll give you that. Momo makes a long version of the same knob that would look more AT like, and sit about the same height as the stocker. Anyway, I respect your opinion, but to me, it's an acceptable match, from the color and texture/grain of the leather, to the black stitching. And I wanted a shorter knob. If you come across something you think matches better, post it here. $52 mods aren't so bad to switch out.

Yes, or the M5 knob a lot of people here have used. They look really cool, but I didn't want to have to modify wires and then have the gear selection display not perfectly match the car's functions.

^ I think so, as long as it comes with the rubber adapters. I believe shragon is running something like that.

You'll have the brand name prominently displayed with those, though.

here's my setup. i like that it's not so tall any longer and i like the feel and look of the round knob. excuse the iphone pics.
i wound up using the three set screws with mine. i think i probably used the wrong rubber adapter. i got the knob a little less than a year ago and have had to tighten the set screws two times. i'm thinking of using a little non-permanent lock-tite on them.

Mines came in yesterday. Thanks OP for showing me where to get one. The knob looks and feels amazing, makes shifting my AT so much more enjoyable. It reminds me of shifting in s mods in my m3 now without the bulky shifter.
