woah woah chill guys... kevin is doing installs on the side after hours. He has a full time job he's at 40+ hrs a week, has 2 lil boys to take care of and is working at a shop without the benefit of a lift so he's swapping out DP's on ramps and stands. He did a set on a Xi recently which took him 7+ hrs so he's choosing at this point not to do the Xi's... nothing more nothing less! Christ...

+1... well said bro. I know Dan was scheduled in for his Xi and after Kevin did the first one over the weekend, he decided it wasn't worth it. So he was straight up with Dan and i'm sure he appreciated the honesty.

its real easy to get to the clamps on the turbo, and to the exhaust bolts, the problem is that it has a front subframe to hold the front diff/engine/and all suspension, between that and the cv axle and the case the the axle goes into, its near impossible to manuver the stock pipes out of the car and install the aftermarket ones.

you can pull the axle and unbolt the case, but its still a 5-6hr job according to ar design. i dropped the engine/subframe assembly as far as it could go without unhooking the engine electrical and fuel lines and all, and it still took 7hrs to manuver the pipes in and out.

QFT.

Kevin did BOTH of us a favor by coming straight out and saying the the DPs are a bitch to install. We are BOTH saving hours of our time. I do appreciate their honesty, and TBH, don't blame them for turning down the install.

I simply wanted recommendations of places where i can get these damn fuckin pipes installed, not a bitch fest concerning business ethics, turning down services, or refusing work.

So please, stay on topic or STFU & GTFO.

kthx.

man WTF happened here? Why are you guys picking on Kev?...for a guy who does these installs without a lift and already comes AFTER he works, I would say hes about as dedicated as could be....he installed EVERYTHING mechanically on my car even tho I had do do it in spurts up until now...I was there when he did those downpipes...they took over 7 hours to put in...its so frustrating to manuver them out especially without a lift that money wouldnt be the issue....unless your paying like $1000 to have them put on....so leave him alone guys...

Maximum PSI is gonna do my downpipe (xi) install. I work across the street from them, they did my 2nd cat delete and always help me out with little shit I need here and there. If you call them ask for Mike and tell him Anthony across the street sent you.

Let me know if you go.

OMG, I am going to regret buying AR DP's for my car. You guys said it is going to take up to 6hrs to install this? So if I take this to an exhaust shop, they are probably not going to have a clue how to change it over right? 6hrs x $100 is as much as the DP itself. What is involved in the install? Is there some advice I can give to the tech? Or should I just not bother and send it back?

if i were you i would take it to a shop that knows your car, a regular exhaust shop is not going to know the fastest way to do it and it will end up costing you more. only tip i can say to save time is to pull the passenger side cv axle out and the case the the axle goes into, its held on by 4 bolts, other then that lower the front subframe and it should go "smooth", either way its gonna take 5-6 hours.

If anyone is still reading this thread looking for future advice, they shouldnt disregard Kevin in area of getting work done. I commend him for being honest right away in his first post.

I too do installs and mods in the area and I know my limits. Ill try anything usually once, but I am also not working with a lift. There are many times Ill get a PM about doing an install and Ill politely(and unfortunately) have to turn them away.

There are a lot of us(as previously mentioned) doing these things as a side job in addition to a full time job that has us working 40+ hours during the week. Not even adding in any family responsibilities we may have.

FWIW, we all try to do the best we can without charging an arm and a leg for fellow members. But do please keep in mind that this is exactly what it is, a favor. I commend everyone on this forum who does work after hours, in crappy weather, for less than its really worth. I know I do it because I love doing it(as Im sure everyone else does), but there comes a point where we just have to say "Unfortunately, I cannot do that mod for you". So please respect the fact that we arent turning away work because we want to or cant be bothered, its because we just don't have the ability to take it on.

Couldnt have said it better myself.

Im taking on DP installs now because I have access to a lift after work (full time mechanic btw) at my friends shop. I know XIs are a real pain, but ive done it with the axles still in the car.

Both went in fairly easy, except for some reason I think the guy got UR I model pipes, not XI, because one bend went right where the oil pan was.

Small massage with a hammer cured that issue, but the UR pipes still fit like shit. I wouldnt be surprised if I still have to fight it some to get it in.

To take out the stock pipes it took me 1.5 hours. It took me 4 hours to get the new ones in, plus puttin the exhaust up. Which didnt line up cuse the pipes were off to one side. None of the bracketry lined up, I had to fab some stuff up and do some welding to get them to fit.

They werent fun, and I had a lot of people ask me over hte last 2 years if I would do them, but without a lift it just wasnt worth my time. Im sure Kevin is all for goin out to help a fellow E90 member, but sometimes you have to sit back and say is it really worth it for X amount, doing it on your back in a tight confined space..

UR XI downpipes installed!

Matt, thank you so much for getting these installed. The car definitely feels, drives, and sounds better. I couldn't be happier.

Anyone with xi downpipes, Matt is HIGHLY recommended. I was in and out in 3 hours. Completely satisfied!!
