Here's a 335i E90 for $21,996:

I just posted confirmed Nurburgring Lap Times and the C6 Z51 Vette smokes the E92 M3. How much more definitive can you get?

Here they are again:
7:59 Chevrolet Corvette w/Z51 Package driven by Dave Hill
8:05 BMW M3 E92 driven by Horst von Saurma

You sure you want to keep arguing this?

Also keep talking about the "mullet-busting" SS Camaro when you see its tailights. Maybe someone will laugh, but probably at you.

Yeah it just proves that the Camaro SS is faster than the 335i on the "toughest, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built race track in the world."

Check mate.

I also want to put out there that I don't hate the 335i, or M3. I just think there is a little bit of delusion, and some "bench racing" going on when you think a 335i is faster than a C6 Vette. I've seen LS2's put down 12.6's, and 12.5's all day long without hard launches. Lightly modded, these cars are getting into the high to mid 11's. The LS3's are even faster.

The 335i puts down decent numbers modded, but stock vs stock, or modded vs modded, a 335i is not on a C6 Vette's level performance wise.

oh the stupidity of it all.

Not to mention that the Z06 would be more comparable to the M3 and the Z06 puts down 7:40 at the ring.

Exactly. The LS2 and LS3 Vettes are faster than an E92 M3, and can be had for about $20,000 less.

The Z06 is actually comparable in price and it would make an E92 M3 look pedestrian on a track or strip.

See the 27 second and 7 second differences? That's the kind of thing that makes fanboys rethink their opinions.

not tryin to get into a pissing match but that doesnt mean much cuz the 335 was faster in every corner except 1 compared to a VIPER SRT10. Those are all numbers. Your looking at just one aspect of the vehicle. Throw in Comfort, luxury, practicallity and the 335 is a great car. Now is it faster than a Viper. Hell NO. is it faster than an Ls3 vette. NOPEEE. Would i take an Ls3 vette over it. No. theres no backseat. its not as comfortable. Just doesnt work for me. But to each his own.

Well I never argued comfort. I've spent time in a 997 GT3, I don't think it's very comfortable, an S-Class mercedes is.

The argument here was performance.

To be honest though, if it helps, I guess luxo-cruiser owners can look at cars like the LS3, Z06, or GT3 and think "My dashboard and leather seats are awesome", as they see those cars tail lights.

your right. Its all on what u want it to be. The 335 is a fast car. But theres cars out there out of its league. Tuned C6 Vettes, Turbo Porsches, GT-R. Basically anything With either lots of displacement or anything putting down over 450 Whp.

Garage List
2006 325i  [10.00]
so moral of the story, whether driving a corvette or 335i, and whatever the performance numbers, we will all be driving 70mph on the highway regardless. intense. granted, the vette will overtake a buick going 55 in that 75mph zone much much quicker than the 335...

dude honest question.. you keep arguing for the POS american cars, are you just mad you can't afford foreign? like you're on a bimmer site calling people snobs.. I sense a bit of jealousy. btw, I call BS on those times, the M3 isn't that slow.

Fastest Nurburgring Times. The first page only shows the top 10; there are links for slower times....

I got curious, so I looked the 8:05 laptime figure up (my google-fu is strong today).

Here's the German car magazine Sport-Auto with the relevant figure.

Here's the google-translated page.

the GT-R time was disputed. An independent company ran the car ran the car and the best they did was 7:38. which is still amazing. but still its no porsche GT2.

The e92 is a sweet looking car... but a C6 Vette is sexy as hell. The BMW is more practical. You want a daily driver? Get the Bimmer. You want a fun track car? Get the vette. Although the BMW isn't bad around a track either....

Just because it's a BMW doesn't make it automatically better.
The last generation (2005-09) Shelby GT500 got a better time around Top Gear's test track than the M3 CSL (e46) of that era. And it wasn't 500hp but 447.

I'd love to own a 2010 Mustang. But it's not practical, especially for Chicago winters. Here's hoping my next car is a 335xi...

Fail at not realizing Hammond being an idiot and thinking the engine produces 447 HP when it actually is 447 HP at the WHEELS. All cars lose power when it goes through the powertrain to the wheels. The GT500 they tested made 500 HP at the crank which all automakers use.

And the ignorance in this thread alone, is astonishing. Let's get this through everyones heads.... Any C6 Corvette will smash your 335i on the track or the straights. It will also out handle the M3. The M3 isn't slow. A 8:05 minute time around the 'Ring is not slow and not bad of a time. But, the Corvette is indeed faster on it around the 'Ring.

Fair enough. Gone are the days when car makers underestimated horsepower in order to reduce insurance costs....
