Anyone ever ever wind up doing the brass tap? Where did you tap? Did it work fine and where'd you get the replacement tap from? I have the same problem now, and was thinking of Home Depot or Strauss for the brass fitting, but I dunno....

You guys are relentless.
The easiest way to get that vac line off is to push in and grab the edge of the vac hose to pull off. The stock vac lines are like a chinese finger trap, if you pull on them it just gets tighter. So you need to reduce the tension by pushing in, grabbing the edge of the line nearest the manifold and pulling from the edge of the vac line out, not pulling the actual line itself (farthest from the manifold). Hope that makes sense. |

I would take the old manifold off and practice working on your baby. Have this be the first project! Just drill the spot where the nipple broke off, make it a bit bigger and get you a threaded brass nipple. Screw it in there and use the jb weld all around the threads on the way in. You will have a spare manifold, better than new, with a heavy duty boost nipple. The fun part is, you already have another one so there is no pressure to get it right... have fun with it and keep it as a spare or sell it! Lots of guys talking about direct injection methanol and a spare manifold with a busted nipple is the perfect project piece. I know 10 guys that would buy that from you just so they could play with it!

I think something like this is good for the job.
1/8 npt male x 3/16" hose barb common size for wastegate control or intake vacuum/boost plumbing

I know this is an old post but figured maybe someone else is having this issue.
I just found out that this was the cause of my boost leak. Been looking for that leak forever!! The previous owner glued it and the glue got in the brass hose and was clogged. I just used a small hose that was the diameter of that hole and after T-ing it to the main hose, i jammed the other end in and it was a tight fit. No more air leak. |

Why do people replace that line if the risk of breaking off the nipple is so high?
I just reused all the lines since they seemed to be in good shape. I have replaced the vacuum lines on the other side of the engine bay. The easiest way was to cut a slit on the line where it meets the nipple and pretty much peel it off. |
