And despite what the other "experts" on here have to say Regions was/is heavily invested (relative to their size) in real estate loans and derivatives. I believe their portfolio was approximately 37% RE at the end of Q1. by far their largest single asset class. just go to yahoo finance and search regions ticker and read the news articles. Wachovia and WF are respectable institutions and will provide better training platforms and they will look much better on your resume.

And if you're serious about your career at all you should do research on the appropriate forums. try www.wallstreetoasis.com. just dont tell anyone you're doing retail.
No one with half a brain on Wall St. gives a damn what someone did as a part time job while finishing their undergrad.

I don't know what's your basis for saying that but in my personal experience (I graduated in 2007 from UCLA, biz-econ undergrad), your undergrad internships and EC have a huge impact on your first job anywhere in finance, which itself is detrimental of your future career path. It doesn't mean that your undergrad internship and EC 100% determine your life after college, but they have a huge impact far from "no one gives a damn". The other big factor for ibanking is GPA.

The MDs I know had various summer/part time jobs while in school. Waiters, bartenders, painters all sorts of stuff. I've never seen someone not get a job because of summer experience.

jaiman is right. GS is an ivy league feeder but i know guys from all types of backgrounds. unless you're doing quant or at a hedge fund you can break in without a 4.0 from harvard. banking is pretty much a glorified sales job. its all monkey math.

ive got an interview on monday with regions, im pretty sure i have the job or they wouldnt want me to come in knowing i have been offered from wachovia...so basically i will see if they are willing to pay more and match the benefits, ive been told Regions is much more layed back on the actual work, not fierce when it comes to sells like wachovia...im training for pro baseball, and going to school, i really dont need a very stressful job to add to my day

This should clear up the value and importance of internships to some extent: http://www.mergersandinquisitions.co...a-banking-job/

There are many investment banking forums and guides out there. This is just one example.
