But this drops markedly once I've passed the 1/2 tank point - to the point where she feels sluggish. This continues throughout the rest of the tank and if I fill up a second tank with Shell it remains sluggish. But if I go back to BP Ultimate she doesn't have the same zingy-ness but doesn't feel sluggish.

I did this a couple of times and swear it always happens. As a result I only fill up with Shell now when I've mis-judged my fuel usage and get desperate. Otherwise it's BP Ultimate all the time for me (same petrol station, same pump)... I can hear the guys with the straight jackets coming for me...
I've heard that the additives shell use 'go off' quickly (whatever that means), but that may explain the zingy-ness disappearing?

I had a forester XT, and found that BP Ultimate got the best out of it, both in performance and economy. I haven't had a chance to fill the 323 with BP Ultimate yet, only shell.
