Can't you get a 335d Coupe "over there"?

You probably could, but the trouble you'd have to go through to get it over here and cleared isn't worth it.

Yes, the 335d is only sold in sedan form in North America. You actually couldn't import a European 335d coupe because it would not pass emissions, and making it conform would require more work than the car is worth.
Back on topic, I too am curious about your impressions of the tune, Jim. |

Sorry I haven't had time to update that post but I'm pretty damn impressed with the gains. As you all know, in stock form the car is deceptively fast. Basically once you spool up the turbos, the thrust is linear and drops off at higher rpm as we have come to appreciate.
Now, once the turbos spool up, the car goes like a bat out of hell and it doesn't give up at higher rpm's either. The thrust is still linear but man does it push you back in your seat! ![]() With this easy mod, the car is comparably E46M3 fast! You still have a bit of lag for the 0-60 sprint but it's still faster than before. At all other speeds, the car is a beast. ![]() I have not noticed any decrease in MPG but I need to be probably do a before and after comparison since I can unplug the module at will. I can't wait for other tuners to come out with software for this car because I'm sure they will have some tricks up their collective sleeves. Cheers, Jim Quote:

I find my car already "E46 fast" as stock and many have commented it feels faster. I do live 4000 feet above sea level so maybe there is some logic to this perception given the turbo advantage up here. |

the a/r housings are a bit bigger than gas turbos. PLus they are set up as compound units if I remember correctly, not individual turbos per group of cylinders. Spool-up time is also affected with injection timing as well. i believe if you start the injection process earlier in the crank revolution, its like increasing timing in a regular car. A little is good, but too much is bad. Causes extremely high pressure spikes that even a diesel cant withstand...and you lead to cracked pistons, broken rods, etc...

He's probably referring to the fact that with the diesel you have to wait for the turbos to pressurize the engine with 27PSI of boost to make its stock 265hp, while the gas engine only needs 9psi to make its 300 hp.

Correct! Also, diesel internals generally weigh more than gas engines etc....

remapping
I adopted a 335d few weeks ago. (It was in the local BMW of Bayside orphanage, unwanted and unloved.) I'm looking at maybe retuning next year. Can anybody tell me what the warranty implications are for retuning? (I know, I know, this is a wicked newbie question. But I need to find out.)

What do you mean returning the car? As in selling it back to the dealer (as trade in)? If you sell it back, the warranty is still intact as long as its under 4 yrs or 50k miles. Since this module is removable, you can just remove it before taking it into the dealers to avoid risking the factory warranty. |

First thing I've noticed is the turbo lag when you first slam the peddle. It never lags after that, but if you're at a dead stop, no revving, there's a definite lapse in acceleration, for maybe half a second.

Hello gents, new member here. Forgive me for bringing this old thread back to life, but I happened upon it during a search. I recently put down a deposit on a 2011 335d (expect delivery within the next 4 weeks), in Alpine white. Some Breyton GTS 19" rims are on the way. I am also considering the VAC control module, so I am curious to hear an update from Jim after driving his car with the tune for a year now. Does anyone else have any feedback on this tune? Problems to report?
Also does anyone know if VAC made any changes to the software since its introduction? |

There are other options available, some very much cheaper.
You should do yourself a favor and search up on the topic before making a tune decision. ![]() I'm waiting for my VAC module (they're sending me one for evaluation), but as far as I know, nothing's changed. I've heard from 2 different people that have the module that there's no high end grunt, but I can't speak from personal experience, but with 2 other tunes tested on my car, I'll have a pretty good point of reference when it arrives.

![]() I know this because I started it. ![]() It's apparent that you've done very little research, else you'd be aware that there at least 2 other piggyback tunes offered which are plug-and-play exactly like the VAC module is.
