In thoery, you can fool it with a resister to take the load of the difference in power of the LED and the stock bulbs. Probably a 10W100ohm should do the trick. (it is the small one in one of the photo above)

Inside headlamp housing, it is very crowded. It is quite difficult to safely installed the resistor. I tried some LED at the city light (the peanut bulb). Only when I use those with a 1W hyper LED, I am satisfy with the brightness.....but these 1W LEDs are very hot. A 1W LED + resister is not really feasiable to put inside the headlight housing.

Do you have a spec on the Led plates used for the door and where I can get them? Is it just plug and play? I like the six seperate pattern better. Nice write up.

Hi,

For the door entrance, I bought them off the shelf here in Hong Kong. The brand is called Luxer 1 and it is made in Japan.

Riku, I saw you put the resistor in place by using vinyl strap. Are you sure the vinyl don't get melted? I use similar setup for my custom angel eyes & the resistor gets really hot & I have to use nuts & bolts to attached them to metal frame...

For the LED trunk lights, I use different method.. No resistor needed to get rid of warning sign.. I just thought the extreme heat of the resistor is just too risky to put them into the trunk cavity.. Too many soft parts that can get burned in there...

Here is what I did for the setup:
Copied from other thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...821#post576821

OK.. here's the pic...
pic #1, from afar
pic#2, connection on the trunk light.
pic#3, connection on the left parking light.
pic#4, connection on the right parking light.
pic#5, the diagram on how it's connected.

NOTE: do it at your own risk. I've been using this method to get rid of warning sign for 2 months now. So far no problem. But who knows. The wire color on the diagram is based on my car 2005 E90 320i. Other model might differ.

Drawback: If you connected to both side of parking light like I did, when one bulb fails (L or R), there will be no warning sign unless both bulbs fail (L&R). & as you already knew, no warning sign for failing LED bulbs.

hi...that's a good idea.

Actually, the resistor didn't get hot in my case. It is just a bit warm to touch after a few hour of
driving. As the HK BMW dealer is very strict on modifying, I need to do the modifying that can be reversible and will not leave a trace.

the resister is called a "Resistor, metal cased, power" or sometimes called a "Resistor, wirewound, aluminium housed"

I bought mine here:

so i did a search there....many of that type resistor came up. Do you know what specific one is needed? I saw a 25w one but not sure about the ohm. does that matter?

the resistance value matters. It is all about Ohm's law.
