The old marbles out the sunroof trick gets them every time. Pennies work good too.

But I don't do that, I just turn on the rear fogs, and sway back and forth in my lane. Usually they think I am crazy and back off.

I hate tailgaters. I usually flash the rear fogs constantly until they back off.

But I do believe that many just feel that its okay to be that close. They dont pay attention to the road, they just assume the driver in front of them is, thus they will follow you.

spray soap and turn on your windshield wipers, only if you don't mind about your car getting dirty

I hate this jerk off in an S class cut me off 3 times when merging into the Lincoln tunnel. Each time, he would swerve back and forth and every time I ended up in a faster lane than him. Finally I got sick and tired of his crap so I jammed my car in and prevented him from cutting in. He started high beaming me and honking.

When I got into the tunnel he tailgated me at close to 60mph. I finally got sick of it so I opened my sunroof, grabbed a bunch of change (no quarters ) and chucked it out. He backed off immediately. When exiting the tunnel he pulled up next to me and started screaming. I just gave him the finger.

I hear some people keep bricks in their car and wave it out of their sunroofs when people tailgate them.

I have a friend who throws golf balls out of his sunroof when people tailgate him. Brake checks them, and if they still don't back off he tosses one. I'm not gonna do that because I don't wanna get keyed. More passive aggressive over here.

I knew a guy with a Mercedes with the rear power sunshade with "Back off" written on it, and he would pop it up when someone would tailgate him.

ya dude I would be careful...things get out of hands nowadays, sometimes you just got to be the bigger man. And depending on what car the other person is in there just hating on your car....btw the rear fog lights really can annoy a driver behind you since there bright...maybe you can upgrade the rear fog light to something brighter and beyond that I would do anything else. its not worth it man trust me...just be the bigger man i know its tough, but somebody has to do it...

Here is my solution to your problem.

1.Step on the gas to gain a bit distance
2. Lay down the LAW!!!

And by LAW I mean this;

If you really want to blind tailgaters mix up some eggs and powder and put the mixture in a balloon. Then when someones pissing you off throw it out the sunroof...though this will most likely cause an accident as the driver will try to swerve off the road blind. Haha

open your sunroof and throw a handful of bolts/nuts in the hair about 9-10ft high.

Why not let him/her pass if they want to go faster than you?

Exactly!

But unfortunately it becomes a big stupid game to a lot of people.

Because of the roads. One laners. The problem is that everyone on my route to school/home drives like a maniac and even though I often drive at 5-10 above the speed limit people still get up on my ass because they'd rather be going 70. They refuse to pass for whatever reason, like they want to teach me a lesson or something.

I’ve noticed an increasing number of BMW (E9X) owners who obstruct the flow of traffic by driving the speed limit +/- 10 mph, blocking the passing lane, etc. The question is, why would people buy/lease a performance car just to putt around town like an old lady in a Buick geezmobile? Those drivers who find themselves being tailgated on a regular basis are simply driving too slow for conditions.

I disagree. Sure there are a few drivers that do just that. But the OP is already traveling above the posted speed limit, and is still getting tail gated on a one lane road. There really isnt much more he can do that flash the rear fogs (constantly like I do) or just keep going. If they have access to pass, then he is doing nothing wrong at all.

not worth it. you slam on your brakes/try to blind them etc. and they crash and get hurt and then sue you for everything you have. just not worth it. brake checking is so stupid, i can't believe people actually do it. if someone is right on my ass i just get over and if i can't i just drive normally and go the speed limit and they can deal with it

Don't mean to revive this old thread, but happened to me last night when I was out with my fiancee. This *** was like 10 car lengths away and I had to take the middle lane, then the right, all the way from the left to get out of i495. With 2 miles left before the exit, I took the middle and the jackass hauled his ass right behind me, i swear, it was inches away from my bumper. I didn't cut him off for crying out loud, he had at least 10 car lengths away and he just freaking sped up to 85mph in a 50mph zone, WITH TRAFFIC might i add. Unfortunately, I couldn't go anywhere after I made that lane change because...like i said...there was traffic. So, I stayed there like a normal driver going at tops 65 like the rest of us. But the *** kept inching close, swerving left and right, and flashing his high beams and , eventually leaving them on, and blinding the FK out of me. To come to an end, it lasted like a minute but holy crap, was I pissed and blinded pretty decently.

So now, I'm carrying a 50mw bright as hell green laser with me and some rocks n pebbles stored in my ash tray (finally putting it to some good use, since it's not even big enough to hold my glasses haha). Now I just have to master the technique of blinding morons like that through my rear view mirror.

There is a lot of wishful behaviour here, but i doubt more than 5% actually throw pennies and all that. It's much easier to let the douche bag go. Or are we really that insecure that we let some lame ass tailgator provoke us into violent bevaious, brake check and create hazard on the road for other people too?

People have serious reading comprehension problems. OP specifically stated single lane issues, yet half the people are suggesting for him to move to another lane...

To OP, I've been thinking to upgrade the bulb for our rear fogs. Other than that use your brakes wisely.
