My chick and I both make the same salary (I make double when bonus is factored in) and her culture dictates that the man always pays. When you could buy a house for $15,000 and a car for $2,000 it was easy to live on a single income but times have change. Don't get me wrong, I pay to go out to dinner or go see a movie 95% of the time but when it comes to a mortgage and other costs involved in a long term relationship, it's time to have the talk. There's a big difference between a gentleman and a sucker.

I agree with this. Right now, I make about 5x as much as my girl, and we're both in school (I am a Veteran so I get paid to go to school), so I pay the rent in full, but she picks up the other stuff like comcast, utilities, and we switch off with the groceries. However, we have agreed that she'll half the living costs once she graduates and lands a nice job after this semester. I think I'll always live by the "tradition" that the guy should pay when you go out, but if she wants to pay, I'm not gonna stop her.

I'm meeting a girl for the first time tonight for drinks, other than some texts and fb messages back and forth we've never talked or met. If the night goes well, I'll pay. Who am I kidding, I'll probably pay either way. lol
