orangepeel is basically a lumpy texture!! like the texture on your walls in the drywall. known as knockdown or orangepeel! its just a term used in reference to describe the look of the texture of the paint. u cant feel it u can only see it!
Thanks! I am hoping that I can post some similar pics of my E92 in the near future--now its time to get the products!

no worries man.. u should really check out the meguiars online link theres lost of good information over there. I have also experimented with other products and what not but i really like the way there products all compliment each other and they bond perfectly every time!
Id suggest gettting the grit guards to put in your buckets and that site has 50% megs wash mits and microfiber towels which i have found are the ONLY MF towels that do NOT scratch my black paint! the ADS link has lots of great deal!!

Great job!

I sympathize. I am in the second month of ownership of a Black Sapphire Metallic 530i and am currently having second thought of getting black. Should I have gotten it in silver gray metallic or titanium gray. I can't do anything about now. The thing is that it looks great after it has been washed. That maybe lasts a few days. By the end of the week it needs a wash. I guess the main problem is that I like in Hawaii where it frequently rains and I am anal.

I guess I need to suck it up and get used to detailing the sucker. I just bought a PC 7424 and am wondering where I should go from here. Pads, polish, sealent. I was going to take the Zaino route but now I am unsure about it after reading this post.

I think two issues were mentioned: shine and durability. But I would like opinons as to other issues as well - time and cost.

Zaino vs Mequiars - can you give me and idea as to who has the edge in each cateory: shine, durability, time spent, and cost.

Thanks!

From what I've read about Meguiars, it should last as long as Zaino -- meaning about six months. That's at least twice as long as traditional waxes, so it's pretty good. I had shimshimhada clay and Zaino my car (see this page for photos), and he did a great job. You'll still need to wash weekly, but I find that my Zaino-ed car cleans up better and easier than it did before shim got his hands on it. My car is not garaged, either. It's in the elements, and it still looks very clean. Especially on Sunday and early in the week, because I generally wash it on Saturdays.

So I'd suggest you spend the 5 hours to Zaino (or Meguiars), then spend an hour or so each week hand washing. After six months, Zaino again. It is a bit of a PITA with a black car, but it is worth it.

Of course, my next car will probably be silver.

THanks blain!!!
the zaino issue!! ZAINO is just WAX!! meguiars offers compound cleaners to clean and remove oxidation, fine scratches etc, etc.. Zaino has FUSION which still feels like vaseline lotion how the hell is lotion going to remove scratches? I used zaino for first 6months of my cars life!! To me its the biggest waste of time layering, layering, layering all the damb layers!!
u must go over the car 10times at least!!! this subject was just discussed on autopia.org as well. so u can do some research over there too if youd like!
with the megs stuff you go over the car once with each product only so there for Ive cut my detailing time in half and I get more done out of it!:rocks:

Yes you are on the right route. the pc 7424 is the same exact thing as the megs G100A.. heres the products i would get to start out with:
1. #83(cleaner compound)
2. #80(machine glaze)
3. #9(swirl remover)
4. #7(show car polish)
5. #21(synthetic sealant)
5. #26 (yellow carnub wax)
for the pads youll need
1 7006
2 8006
1 9006

u can get everything from autodetailsolutions.com

So it would be a time saver? But would it also be less expensive?

I found all the products except the applicator pads on the auto detailing solutions site. Is there a different numbering system for the pads?

I assume I use my Porter Cable only with the swirl remover with a light cutting pad?

Thanks!
