I've been thinking about doing this, but I def want to invest in some catless DPs so I'm afraid with that and no mufflers it would be a bit too loud. Has anyone tried magnaflow free flow mufflers?

dont do it!!! I did it before catless dp and took it off within a few days. The drone and extreme loudness is too much to bare. I now have catless dp and vanguard full exhaust, its loud but not nearly as annoying as the muffler delete. it sounded like i had open headers in a bimmer!! hahaha

I hate mine on cold starts because it sounds like 2 huge trumpets and the sound is a little obnoxious in my opinion. Once the 45 seconds pass and it calms down it sounds GREAT! The sound when you hit 5-6k rpm is unbelievable!! On the other hand, there is a terrible drone (at around 2,500-3000 rpm) in the cabin when your windows are closed which can get really annoying on long hauls when you are constantly at that rpm. I only regret the muffler delete during thw winter but keep it for when I can open the windows.

I had race pipes on my Previous E90 and it was annoying, but just a MD on a E90 335i sounds good, the cheapness aspect adds a lot to the sound. Vroom vroom take that Eisenmann, $40 bitch!

Any one try doing an h pipe to see if it helps with the drone, and what size tips are you using?

I've been thinking of doing this for a while on my E90, however not sure how it would sound with my dp's.. I think dp's + stock exhaust sound perfect.. now I want a lil more vroom, but also thinking of going with electric cutouts for when I want it to have the most aggressive sound.. the best 335 I've ever heard was at the track and had exhaust completely removed from dp's back!

I had mine for a few weeks then put the stock back on. It was too loud and obnoxious. I didn't feel like I was in a BMW. It felt like I was back in my 94 civic ricer with a fart can. I say try it. You might like it...you might not. The good thing is it's cheap and reversible. Keep your stock muffler because when you get a modified exhaust ticket you will need it.

the sound with cats is a V8 mustang's and a STI's baby the sound is cool, but the drone isnt as bad as if you run no pipe and dump from cats. If you want to run catless DPs and no muffler than it sounds ugly and is bad for your turbos if you have a 335. it lets the turbos spool to much, and mixed with AA piggy back like mine you might just blow the seals on the turbos like i did on my first set of turbos.
hope my experience with it helps out. |

The only thing I liked was the drone. With all the windows up on the freeway it had a nice sound. I could "hear" my exhaust but with windows down on the street it was too loud.

135i owners: Stay away from a 3" straight pipe. If you go this route, make sure to get AT LEAST 1 resonator down there somewhere.

I really think it might just be better to get electric cutouts so you can be really loud and aggressive when you want and tone it down for cruising... not that expensive either.. install the cutouts right after the dp's for the most performance, VERY LOUD but the best sound you'll ever here outta the N54
