+100. This should be the first mod you do when you take delivery on your N54 period.

great review, as usual from you! All your DIY give a lot of information and understanding and is very interesting to read also when not having the mod. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

My car is at my shop to have a.o. the FMIC replaced by the one of ETS. I am really curious how it looks like regarding the oil. If it is bad, this catch can is the first thing to buy.
I am only worried that my dealer will not appreciate this mod and void my warranty.... they will for sure spot it when going in for maintenance.

I went with the BSH for a few reasons. I like metal filtrate catch cans very much because they are simple and are basically immune to oil clogging. The BSH can has CNC billet aluminum connectors which are very nice. The billet aluminum dipstick is awesome for checking the oil level! Finally, the location is ideal for me because I don't want to move my boost cannister and I have the STETT CAI on the driver's side.

I am sure AR's product is great because they don't make bad products to be honest.

Good guesses cn555ic! You know me well.
thanks, I'll probably move on to something else in time. it's only been on there for like a month.. I procrastinated for long time..

I just had it at the garage twice this month, that's probably why you have the impression I've been without it a while. Always seems too long for me as well!

I also had a problem obtaining the GIAC stage 2 flash, but that's another story (with a happy ending hopefully). That's why I'm running a JB3 right now, as my car has been flashed back to stock last week. Before that I had the front M3 sway bar installed, along with the STETT CAI (VERY tight fit, that one; the inside of it was also rusted and flaking off, which was quite disappointing quality-wise). The appointment yesterday/today was to do an oil change, engine cleaning, install of the OCC and of the BMW Performance black front grille (looks great), mainly in preparation for the week-end at the Nürburgring on Easter.

But I don't want to thread-jack here!

Marcel, first thank you for the kind words. For the cost I would say just get the BSH OCC. It is not worth getting that oil in your intercooler and I assure you it will. There is no way BMW can bother you for an OCC.

shifterboy45, thanks! It really is much more OEM than the Riss looked.

Donmiel80, I would email BSH as it appears they already have an exchange program.

With all the mods on your car, it is worth the protection to get an OCC. It is a necessity on the N54.

Same here, my kit came this week. Installing as I type this. No locking tab on mine. Interesting that former_boosted got one!

1) does that connection see high boost and vacuum?
2) Should I temporarily put a clamp around it to help hold it on?

Does this kit come with the hose to drain the oil?

How exactly does that drain plug work?

Where did you guys order yours from?

TIA

I ordered mine from **********s.com. I think you need to unscrew the mounting bolt, and lift up the can to get to the drain easily. Will be interesting the first time.

Other than now getting the locking clamp in the kit, its been a pleasant experience. I already sent an email to BSH customer service to see if they will send me the part.

Great write-up Former_Boosted_IS! I always like reading your installs/reviews as they're very in-depth and nicely written.

You mentioned having to move the boost cannister with the AR Deisgn OCC Is this necessary even with the stock airbox? I don't plan on getting a CAI or similiar.

Also, doesn't the BSH OCC mount over the turbo area, thus getting very hot?

While on the subject of catch cans, how does one drain the AR OCC compared to the BSH?

From BSH today concerning the kits that have PCV outlet adapter without the locking piece. If you didn't get it, shoot them an email to get on their list (for now I just wrapped the connection tigtly with some electrical tape):

Scott,

We are currently finishing the update on the N54 kits. Once we have them complete, we will be happy to swap the one you have now for the updated part.

We will just need you to return the original one so we can remove it from circulation.

I will have our Sales Team enter in a Warranty Consideration order for you, so that when the update is complete, we can make sure you get one.

Thank you for your business.

What is the diameter of the blow-by holes of the catch can? It appears larger than that of the RR can and for good measure.

Sounds like you got the answers you needed from BSH?

The bolt for the bracket comes off in 30 seconds, so it is easy to drain. The nice thing is with a dipstick, you will know when that time comes rather than guessing.

Bayerische, thanks for the kind words. With the stock airbox, you do not haev to move the boost cannister, but since I have a CAI it I would have needed to opt for the other mounting location. With respect to heat, I have yet to see a single example of an OCC catching more oil in one location versus another. I have completely dry pipes even when I had the Riss OCC, so that location apparently works very well.

The hose size on the BSH is -10 and it is significantly larger than the Riss hose was. I think the Riss was -6 ?
