I would keep the GT3. But if he must change cars...tell him to get an e92 M3 with DCT.

I would take the R8. That is such a sweet car. Just me though, I'm a sucker for looks.

^ The R8 is ~115k and the 911 is ~114k, but again, Porsche is willing to lop 15k right off the top and Audi said "maybe a couple k" . We looked at the 3 new R8's they had, but all were 140k and up (The 2 leftover '09's had almost every single carbon fiber option that upped the msrp by ~15k). He's going to look at the C4S again today.

Alas it's out of the price bracket and that is why the C4S is by far the better option in my opinion. |

Why not consider something like this:http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...5&aff=national
And you could probably get it for even less than that. This is the route i would go personally

shift@red: You do have a nice stable but who says that I don't have a Cayenne, RS4, GTR in my garage right now...I'm just saying... Just because I wrote 1 bmw and 3 DD.....it doesn't say anything...I could have owned a 128I does that makes my opinion less valuable?

Im not saying the turbo has the sex appeal of the R8 at all. I already said i would go for the R8 in this situation, but the OP insisted that his dad is leaning towards the porsche.
I just think going from a 997 GT3 to a 997 turbo is a better option than going to a 997 C4S. The Turbo will be nowhere near as harsh as the GT3 and will make for a great daily. Not to mention it can hang with most supercars costing twice as much. Its also VERY mod friendly if you want to go that route

Haha. I liked the Turbo idea as well. He seems, as of tonight, dead set on getting a PDK tranny in whatever car he gets, which pretty much rules out anything that's not 2010, so an old Turbo seems out of the question. He hates the tiptronic (We have it in our Cayenne Turbo) and doesn't want another 6-speed, so it seems as though he's going with the C4S tomorrow. He doesn't like any used car or anything with a manual at this point (even though he was a ridiculous amateur circuit driver about 20 years back).

R8 is brilliant car to drive as a regular six speed but if he's not comfortable driving it then why get it. If he's a long time Porsche guy he'll feel right at home in the C4S though and he might never regret this choice. Selling the GT3 for it is another thing.
![]() I'd steer him towards an '07 turbo in six speed because they are coming down in price because of the new face-lifted and re-engined model. The clutch on those is hydraulically assisted and a pinch to press compared to the effort it takes to press a GT3 clutch. Hope he makes the right decision for himself.

Weird... I thought the 997 GT3s are much more daily-drivable than the 996's... at least from what people said on 6speed.
I don't think your dad will regret moving into a C4S. I remember reading on 6speed how somebody traded in his 997.1 GT3 for an 09 C2S and not looking back one bit. He stated it is still a trackable car and afterwards you go out on a night on the town.
