Thanks for the info JP.

The 335i base sound system has the tweeters and the sound is ok but not awesome - if this is considered "good" compared to the 320's etc I can now see why people are keen to upgrade!

As far as I know my car has no amp other than the headunit...so my confusion continues.

Anyone with a 335i base upgraded their speakers/amp?

the alpine kit, like every other bmw accessory, is unjustly priced in Australia. It is probably more reasonably priced and a better deal in other places.

To put the BMW factory Audio options into perspective, this is how BMW describes them (very briefly) for the LCI Sedan. Images below are from the 2009 E90 International brochure.

Base (assuming = Radio BMW Business CD) - 4-channel amplifier, six loudspeakers (four mid-range speakers/tweeters, two central subwoofers under the front seats)

HiFi loudspeaker system - ten loudspeakers

HiFi System Professional LOGIC7 - 13 loudspeakers and an optional surround mode

Individual High-End Audio System - features extraordinary high-performance speakers with exclusive neodymium magnet drivers

Having said that, previous year models or other E9x variants may have slight variations. For example the 2010 E90 brochure shows a reduction in some speakers/subwoofers:
Base - five loudspeakers (four midrange speakers/tweeters, a central subwoofer under the driver’s seat)
HiFi - eight loudspeakers

It's confusing isn't it - because the 335i has a better "base" sound system than say a "base" 325i.

Having said that I think my 335i base has 4 mids (2 with tweeters) and the 2 subs - but no amp that I can find.

That's true. But looking at some old price lists for the E92, Hi-Fi was standard on the 335i, Logic7 was a $1250 option and Individual was a $3150 option for 335i's.

So yours should be Hi-Fi (although how many speakers/tweeters may depend on the model year).

I double checked my car and I have 10 speakers - they count the tweeters as separate speakers. It does the job, but not spectacular

320d basic audio upgrade needed in the Brisbane area ideas please

www.bavariansoundwerks.com/
The stage one upgrade on offer looks pretty good.
Is there a match in Oz more specifically Brisbane.
Is there an affordable way of upgrading to a decent upgrade of the basic (quite poor) professional!! sound system.

I prefer OEM as a matter of course but willing to go outside of that to achieve a bass biased sound.

Alpine upgrade available at your local dealer. This gets you an amp, two new front door speakers and tweeters and new window trims (to mount the tweeters in) including installation. Cost is about $1350
