I replaced the battery in my comfort access key fob a while ago and took some pictures, I also did an easy how to guide for those who are having trouble.

This is only for CA people, those of us with nonCA fobs need to get new fobs

One of my E93 key fob cannot open door remotely, so today I purposely run the car from Markham to Niagara just to charge the fob battery. But it didn't work so check the forum and just replaced the CR2032 battery. Everything work again! Really cannot understand why BMW give us wrong servicing information. Thanks the forum.

I have a 2007 335i with the comfort access fobs, and my spare fob stopped working several months ago. Fearing that it may be a problem requiring a typical BMW fix (read: RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE). I left it as a "to do" in the back of my mind. Tonight I needed to use the spare, so I searched and found this post. Imagine my stunned delight when I read that it was a bog standard, CR2032 button-cell battery, the most common button cell there is! I followed Glim's instructions, and found (also to my delight) that the battery cover was easily removed (I used the tip of the metal key that is in the fob). I am an IT consultant, so I had a bunch of 2032s lying around. After replacing it, my remote works perfectly! THANK YOU GLIM! First 0$ dollar repair on my BMW to date!

For those of us without the comfort access key... the supposedly non-user serviceable battery... two quick questions:
1. Does anyone on this forum have a guide for the DIY'ers? Like what kind of battery we'd be looking at (supposedly Panasonic vanadium pentoxide rechargeable button cell per link above?) and what the best steps are to do this?
2. How much does a replacement non comfort access key typically cost from a dealer?

I will be doing this project to my 07 e90 Non CA key FOB. Will post the link in English.

Project Saturday Aug 26th, Youtube video should be uploaded with in a weeks time.

1) Buy Fob Shell.
2) Replacement battery.
3) Get a soldering Iron
4) Box knife to open original key fob.

Be careful opening the original key and not damage any thing inside. Make slow cut with the razor blade all around the key fob.

Turn on your soldering iron and press on the two points where the battery is connected to loosen the battery for removal.

After the old battery is removed, use the soldering iron to open up the holes for new battery.

Once the batter is placed in the proper position solder both points back on. Use the old Fob cover and test your car to make sure it works.

It did not unlock the door at first. I used the manual key and started the car. Once the car started, I tried to unlock the doors and trunk and everything works.

I repeated the same process with Key #2.

I watched a guy on YouTube open a non comfort fob. He used an exacto knife and scored it all around until it popped open. Once inside he desoldered the battery and resoldered one back in. Not me. Nope....
