Thing that worries me is that everything you do with the car is loged on the bmw ecu. All bmw techs have to do is plug in the diagnostics testing cords, and it shows how fast you went, how many times you red lined your car, how much psi you were running, and what time you did it at.

So unless you have the software to clear these or know someone its pretty sketchy deal warrenty wise.

Xede intercepts the boost readings before it gets to the DME and then changes it so the DME sees that boost levels are normal.

335e90, are you 100% sure that is the case?

So BMW can not find out about this mod at all? If that's the case I'm placing my order today so that I can install it as soon as I get the car in Feb

I am 100% sure this is the case and tried to check and found on the xede FAQ:
Q:If the dealership doesn't detect XEDE will the ECU somehow detect it?
A: No. The Xede is completely invisible to the ECU and dealership.

But it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask about this whenever you call or email him to order it.

Ya but normal being the stock boost (7-8 psi)? Or normal as being (11-12 psi, that xede boost your car too).

If its reading the boost at 7-8 psi when its really 11-12 psi that would be great.

But if its reading it at 11-12 psi then you have a problem because say your car breaks at that time. Then the bmw techs can find out that your car was running at a higher boost when it broke.

That means that if you were running your car at 5k+ rpms with 11-12 psi, at say 6th gear doing 130 mph. Bmw can put 2 and 2 together and say that you were tampering with the car.

Nothing is ever 100% invisible, esp at this point and time with car technology. Bmw even found out when my friend took off his whole exhaust system and ran it for a bit because of the higher flow of exhaust. Thats when he even put it back on before taking it to the dealership.

I think I could live with that Walked U

My main concern was when I go to the BMW dealership for a regular checkout & oilchange. If they could pull the info right out of the computer logs and say AHAAA you had this and this on at this and this time and you did this and that with it.

As long as I can take the thing out before I go to the dealership I'm all good with that.

Ya but its not going to be too funny when bmw doesnt replace your broken engine parts when you voided your warrenty.

But all in all xede is a great thing. Im not trying to put it down. Just trying to get all the info out so others will have some info before buying it.

Its rare that a dealership will even care what the cause of the problem is. What they see is what they replace. Its not like they will do much investigating.....

Here we go again.

Tell me something, anyone, how would BMW prove that an ordinary guy turned up the boost on his 335? If they cant prove it, then how are they not going to replace anything that is covered under warranty?

I know that no one besides IMSAMBEEN has been driving with it in for a while, but NOT ONE PERSON has anything negative to say about the car after the XEDE.

The tune sure does free up a lot of the hidden power, but don't you think that power was hidden for a reason? I have faith in BMW's judgement, and I think that they tuned the car with reliability in mind. I have no doubt they could have well tuned the car and upped the boost but I feel they left it the way it is now for a reason.

With that said, don't you Xede people feel even just a little bit itchy about gaining that much more power from Xede with stock internals? It sounds a bit too good to be true doesn't it? The power of an $80k car in a 3-series daily driver... what do you guys think?
i dont have a 335, but im assuming u've never owned any highly modable car, or never tuned the engine in general. but the power gain is not unreasonably high, it is actually mediocre relative to other cars that cost the same or less than a 335. "The power of an $80k car in a 3-series daily driver" is not a true statement. Many many cars under $80k make 330bhp with or without the help of tuning (ie: sti, evo, a4, is350, g35, z06). A more realistic measure is that the 335 with xede is making the same power as a $60k BMW, which in turn, does not worry me at all.

My thoughts exactly, if it's not logged anywhere how will they know that I had it installed? Even if the car breaks down I'll take it out before anyone get's there.

The Xede data are power at the drive wheels. I don't think there are any cars short of the Z06 with 330 whp and 375 ft/lbs on a dyno. At the crank it's likely around 370 bhp & 425 ft/lbs, and that over an extraordinarily wide rpm range, in contrast to the usual 'peaky' output of most tuned small displacement engines. This is almost into M5 territory, in terms of power/weight ratio.

Yeah. I mean I can understand why people would be worried, having just bought a $50k car, but if you really think about it and put whatever fears you have aside and look at the simple facts, you really have nothing to be worried about.

UNLESS BMW sends out a fleet of lil Bimmer police that pull you over and tell you to open the hood

Yes, stressdoc has it right^^^^. The numbers posted about Xede-equipped 335i's are WHP (BHP numbers are higher, although the exact numbers are highly debatable). However, one thing is for sure, with an Xede-equipped 335i, you're running close to, if not faster than many $80k+ sports cars; we're talking ~ 4.0-4.5 sec. 0-60mph and ~ low-mid 12 sec. for 1/4 mi. Try buying a similarly equipped Porsche 911, Cayman S, BMW M3, M5, Audi RS4, Merc. CL AMG, Corvette Z06, etc. for $50k.
