29K miles from December '07. I also work from home, if not I think I would of been close to 40K.

I'm only at 19k with my '07--I plan on extending the warranty to 7/100 and then driving all over the place. Actually I'm trying to do that now, I do want to put some serious miles on it under warranty...

High milage w/ tune guys whats the worst you have had go wrong with your engine/driveline?

What are your maintenance intervals like? Do you follow the bmw service or do you do more oil changes and other services?

Shiv's and Mr5's cars are easily tracked on the forums. I know Mr5 had turbo replacements due to rattling waste gates and so did Shiv, but I can't confirm that. Everyone has had some type of HPFP replacement (normal for stock cars), sticky VANOS (normal for stock cars) and fried clutch on Shiv's car, but looking at what he does to that car and how much extra HP he's running, not a surprise, I think his clutch lasted past 50k miles, which means for most people running less boost and not dragging their cars we should get close to 100k miles well at least 75k miles on the OEM clutch with only a stage I tune.

I have relatively high mileage (47k miles) and I change my oil about every 5k miles.

I think our cars are actually more burly than people give credit. The weak points are the HPFP (120k warranty), injectors, cams and wastegates, that BMW has hopefully addressed with newer part #'s. Only time will tell on that. I think the cam issues are resolved from older builds, as I only hear VANOS and cam issues with older build cars. The injectors are a bit worrisome and so is the carbon buildup issue. Obviously the HPFP will always be there, but most people will be covered for a long time here in the US.

Nope My turbos never rattled terribly so they were never replaced. The only failures I've had are:

1) Clutch at ~60k miles. Replaced with Spec Stg 2+ with lightened flywheel
2) Steering column locked an was replaced under warranty at ~45k miles
3) I think I may have had a VANOS solenoid replaced somewhere along but I honestly don't recall.

Non-failure replacements:

1) 1st HPFP replaced under warranty at around 30k due to mandatory recall/service bulletin. Nothing was wrong with the original one. BMW just mandated the replacement when I brought my car in for servicing.

2) 2nd HPFP (new model) installed at my cost since it was required in order to get the new 37.2 DME software which I needed to test. Nothing was wrong with my previous pump.

For all I know my original pump might have still lasted me up to now.

Cheers.

Interesting. IMO, you have a 50/50 shot. Some of us have little if any mechanical problems (tuned or stock) and others have everything that could go wrong happen to them.
