Hill was just an eejit. Can't believe you don't remember those incidents but remember the Schuey ones, were you not a fan back then? I cant blame you for knowing the bad ones, as British press and TV viewing did make a scapegoat out of him.

Met Rossi a couple of times and have 2 of his replica helmets signed by him as well as photo's etc
You only have to look at his post race/win stunts to appreciate the guy! The finest racer ever - and a REAL crowd pleaser I agree on Schu being the "villain"

My recollection is that the schuy moves were quite cynical (i.e. cheating), whereas Hills were not. Hence the schy ones are the ones that stick in the memory. What did Hill have to gain by taking them both out at Silverstone or Monza? |

Thing is, when Schu Joined F1 I was 7 years old. I followed him from the very start of his career. I had no issues with Germans, I was too young. All I saw was a fantastic racer. He would do anything to win. Now thats the attitude that the very best have. You need that to succeed.
There was times when the British patriotic press really gave Schu a hard time, this is why some non full time followers or part interested people have this WRONG Hatred towards him. This isnt football. Its not England vs Germany. Its Driver and his team against the next. I follow drivers as a driver. Not teams. Alot of the younger crop of Drivers ive seen followed from their karting days. I dont jump on bandwagons.

This is true, and he was in many was the best driver of his era - his results spoke volumes - but the way he did it was sometimes unsportsmanlike. This is where the ugly side of wanting to win at all costs surfaces and its not pretty, and not a very good role model for others either. I actually quite like M Schumacher, but as a cheating villian who I like to see loose. Having said all that I don't think he deserved the penalty he got in Monaco - he should have lost the place, but not all those points. PS I've lived in Germany for several years and like Germans. I've competitively karted against Germans. I shared an office for 4 years with a German, who when it came to F1 was M Schumachers No.1 fan - even he didn't try and defend the Adelaide incident. PPS I usually beat the Germans in the karting, and the Italians. It was the other Brits that were tough to beat. PPPS I was sharing the same office at the time I went across town to watch England beat Germany 5:1. Happy times. |

What everyone does have to remember is no matter whether you are a full on hardcore F1 fan or just enjoy watching the racing every week, we are all entitled to our own views, and no ones is more right than another, as they are personal views, and how you each see them!!
I think that makes sense. Mine is that he is an extremely talented driver, but comes over very arrogant, and initially I thought his choice to come back this season, would leave him being remembered as the comeback flop, and I still maybe right, but hopefully he will prove us wrong, and there have been a couple of the 'old' schuy moves being seen. As always, just my tuppence- and for the record, I've always followed F1, but mostly from a distance, but am enjoying each race more and more, especially over the last few seasons - Funny really as touring cars, used to be my thing, but I've switched!

The class was officially known in German as:
Klasse "Spaß mit Arbeitskollegen" with 6.5ps Honda Gas powered karts (6000rpm). Raced every month with basically the same competitors - my best year was 2002, when I came 2nd overall. Harte Rennen, aber wir nehmen uns nicht allzu ernst. Last edited by F31-340i; 05-29-2010 at 07:47 AM.. |

LOL.
So it was a rental kart series. Didn't it make you want to go and buy a race kart mate?

I'd rather spend the money on a proper fun (petrol) car for the road. Like a 911. Last edited by F31-340i; 05-29-2010 at 08:52 AM.. |
