Alrighty guys and gals... So I finally received the M3 mirror set, which took about roughly two weeks and was expected as they came from China. My initial thought upon opening the box was nice!! They looked bad ass! My second thought when I pulled them out was, whoa, these things are freaking heavy! Upon closer inspection I noticed a few blemishes throughout the black part of the mirror housing and that the cover was not a cover at all. The entire mirror is a fiberglass mold of an M3 mirror and you will not be able to swap them out as it is one solid piece. I contacted CarGym and they said the blemishes were because of the fiberglass and most of the products come that way. The mirror is just your basic mirror like the one you get all sexy in during the morning at your home, nothing fancy. Once the mirrors are purchased, you'll receive an e-mail with instructions on how to install the mirrors, which I'll post up along with the mirrors themselves. I did send them out to paint and will attempt to install them on Monday 20th so I'll report back on my findings and have some close-up pics of the mirrors and installation instructions. Other than the few blemishes, weight, and still waiting on verdict of fitment. So far looks like a pretty sweet deal...
I had some extra cf covers for an M3 mirror set, which I had sent off to paint and they looked killer on the mirrors! Looked OEM to me, but I did want to send the mirror itself also to paint as not all of us will have that same luck with an extra set of covers...

Yup, I can't wait to get them back for an install... If all goes well, I'd buy again...

Back with somewhat of a verdict... The paint shop where the mirrors were done would not touch them fearing mechanical failure because of the work required to do the install correctly, yet stated they were still unsure if they would work at all. I then took them over to two other locations that deal with BMW vehicles to get a second opinion. From their outlook, both stated the mirrors would not work without somehow altering the inside of the mirror housing to correctly house and hold the motor in place, but would be pointless as the mirror would not work properly. Not sure of the work required to have em’ work properly or if it can even be done, but will put them up for sale if anyone is willing to give it a try. Where there's a will there's a way I guess...

Received this email from owner of NVDAutosport just the other day - their mirrors look similar to the CarGym versions except they mirrors and bases are made from aluminum instead of the fiberglass versions Cargym sells:

Dear: Sir

We would like to inform you that we now have the replica side mirror for BMW E90 / E92 M3 side mirror for RHD and LHD versions. Please review the details:

http://www.nvdautosport.com/side_mir..._e90_92m3.html

The side mirror comes in 3 versions:
- Primer color
- BMW finished color
- Carbon fibre.

Hope, you will be interested in this item.

Best regards,
Prapan
www.nvdautosport.com

> NVDAutosport carries quite a bit of nice CF parts for our cars - but they are relatively expensive as they are the actual factory parts wrapped in CF and cleared.

I did request pricing and received this reply:

Dear: Jay

Thank you for the reply. Please find prices below:

- primer color @ $380u.s.
- carbon fibre @ $548u.s.

- painting service @ $80u.s.
- shipping charge @ $105u.s.

The side mirror is manual fold with heated glass. For the electrical motors, you will need to use back from the existing side mirror.

For the instruction, will send in a separated e-mail as it is in my other computer.

I have been installing this side mirror for more than 50 sets. All work fine. Also the retailers that I sell in EU do not have a problem with the installation.

Best regards,
Prapan

He did email me the instructions also in MS Word format (which I can't figure out how to post). But basically, you will have to retrofit your existing motor mechanism from your factory mirrors into these mirrors.

This entails cutting the wires from your existing motors and wiring the connector back on, cutting off existing mounting tabs for new style of mount. Then there's a plastic plate that attaches to back of the glass with 3M tape, and glass assembly then snaps onto mirror motor.

The glass IS heated, but it is not auto dim nor does it appear to be tinted blue - just plain mirror glass.

^that is damn cheap but who wants to be the guinea pig?

also, the whole transplanting the motor sounds alittle rough.

Damn thanx for that post. Do the instructions tell you everything to do as far as moving the motor?

Yeah, you remove the motor from original, cut connector off end of wires, thread wires with connector thru new mirror from one side, cut tabs off motor, connect motor wires back up to connector end you cut off, install motor in housing with screw in center, snap mirror adapter plate onto motor, afix mirror onto adapter plate with supplied 3M double sided tape as you center the mirror in the housing cavity.

Looks simple enough, now how well everything fits is still up in the air - if you go with NVD owner statement - all fits well...

Now the mirrors I explain are NOT the CarGym versions - so I don't know if the same instructions would apply to them.

The instructions for the cargym's are attached on the 1st page, I just read them and it sounds about the same.

I don't have auto fold/dim so I don't even know that I have the same motor in there?

Are you planning on trying this?

I'm thinking about it but it's still a lot of money to get it and it not fit/work right....that would suck...

The motor they are referrring to in the instructions is ONLY the motor that controls the mirror adjustment. So you will be all right.

These aftermarket mirrors are only manual fold - so if you have power fold now - you won't be using that motor, nor will you have the power fold option.

Not really thinking about buying these personally, I would rather wait till I find a set of oem's on here to buy for less $$ than new
