Anyone with an AT that makes their exhaust sound louder will drone.
Keep the exhaust in a lower gear and it won't drone.

the two major diffences in either car is 1) transmission final drive ratio 2) differential drive ratio so are you saying these two things contribute to drone? or is there something that im missing ? |

Is that normal? Dealer messed it up eh...i'll have them look at it in August. Golf-tee drone is damn annoying on the highway too, thats why I bought he PE...so I'm assuming it is not installed correctly. On a sidenote, this PE makes the car feels more responsive (6MT...almost as if there is less lag), might just be psychological though. |

I can't say enough good things about the BMW PE. I am definitely not into the really loud and obnoxious exhausts either. The PE is all win IMO.

No drone on my setup, I do know just after the install things were noisier, but its an exhaust, it was supposed to be.
I dont think its a drone, the exhaust is just more noticeable, and I think it sounds perfect. |

A little bit annoying at times, but not that much. Totally worth it and totally reversible. |

Drone? Turn the volume up higher than a whisper and you're golden. Seriously I think this exhaust is quiet as crap. Thank god I didn't buy it out of pocket, was comp'd from dealer due to downtime. Complete waste of $ IMHO, I think ppl who say it was best $ they spent on a car mod is lying to themselves(IMHO AGAIN). I mean start up it sounds nice, after 20 seconds it's gone. BTW, any1 wanna trade a bmw perf for an ae exhaust? Or buy my bmw perf exhaust for an e90. Had it for only 1k miles.

could this be an interpretation problem --
if someone could, please define exhaust drone from a technical standpoint, and if available -- the causes for it (droning) this may help me understand if indeed my car is making a droning noise, and i am not aware of it. TIA |

I wanted to chime in on this issue. I just had the Performance Power Kit and Performance Exhaust installed last week, and I experienced the same problem. I had researched the exhaust to death and everyone was saying no drone, so I bought it...and then experienced some pretty serious drone at 2000-3000 RPM. It really made starts from a stop annoying and cruising from65-85mph was bad. It even seemed to be worse with the radio on, because it resonated above the radio and sounded like when you roll only one window down and your ears seem to get that wierd noise that almost sucks the ear in and out! I figured something was wrong, but I drove it for 500 miles and then took it back to the dealer this week for them to retighten all of the exhaust. I got it back yesterday and now am very happy and see why the other posts were all favorable. It is deeper than stock but no longer has the annoying drone. Now I am enjoying the set up!! I am sure that your clamps and connectors are loose and causing your drone. Take it in before August...you will be glad you did. There for a few days I tried to feather it to avoid the drone, but now that is fixed I seem to be driving WOT and grinning from ear to ear!!

I'm getting my Performance Exhaust installed today - hopefully, I won't have this issue.
