Special BMW software to detect tunes? What my SA said today...

OP, your crazy to bring your car in with non-BMW performance mods.
IMHO they came up with a story after you told him you didn't have a tune on it, but it really didn't matter, either way you are screwed once they see the mods. There is no reason to have cat-less downpipes without a tune and everyone knows it.

already picked up the car. everything is fixed. HPFP and oil leak fixed. my software upgraded to latest. I just paid and left. SA was still nice. He actually told me about some shops in the area where they do performance mods and even gave me the name of someone here in Vegas who does GIAC flashes. He said "you should get this flash and it'll give you 400 whp easily, BUT, he said, you didn't hear this from me". I said "thanks but I don't want a tune cause I don't want to lose my warranty" (haha my JB3 was back in my car 30 minutes after I got home).

Anyway First impressions: (of the new updated BMW software----latest and greatest)

When I went outside to get my car i noticed right away that the exhaust sounded much louder. Nice tone. I got home and my wife in the driveway said "your car sounds different and more louder". so I guess thats a plus. I've heard other say the exhaust is louder with the new software.

Secondly, right off the bat, my car felt so much faster than it did before. I almost called my SA to ask him if he flashed my car with a tune. It really felt as if my car was tuned. All this was felt at lower speeds and lower RPM however. Off the line the car felt faster than before. Must be the new software update. Once I got onto the highway, it still faster than before (bear in mind I am only comparing stock before to stock now..well with DP's and DCI anyway but no tune). On the highway I definitely missed my JB3, car was still a snail without it.

Finally I had absolutely no lag (I have a lot more lag with the tune). This was a great feeling. It felt great taking off at a green light. I think I like having lower torque because the wheels don't spin as much and take-offs are better. With my tune I have so much torque that my rear end fish-tails (getting Quaife LSD soon anyway)

Anyone else get the latest software?

I have tried very hard since 2008 to avoid getting the latest software (i was pre v29), but I am so happy I did. Car felt more alive and exhaust sounds so much better.
