Righto,
Well........cut it short. I bought it. Now there are certainly some things that need doing. Timing belt is numero uno....not a job for me either. 500 quid jobby. But i knew this when i was there. Other annoyances like auto lights not working which turns out to be because the windscreen was replaced and the fitter (whatever bellend he was) just lobbed off the sensor and binned it. I only found this out when i got home CD changer doesnt work. Crunch from 1st to 2nd, only when I am horsing it stupidly though Uber heavy clutch. Usual knocks form front end, needs track rod ends and possibly gearbox mount. I just wanted to get your steer on what I should do in eBay with regards to feedback though.....heres the story. So right, I flew from Belfast all the way to Stevenage, even arriving 15 minutes early as the seller told me he was in a rush and couldnt hang round. I arrived to find teh car covered in SOOOOOOO much bird shit it was unreal.....looking through this, I saw a car that was pretty nice. Now, the battery was stone dead.......utterly monstered......and the car had no petrol in it at all. The seller bumped it to get it running so I could take it for a run which i did and assured me it was just cos it was sitting so long. Yet even after a good while of idling...the battery was flat. Concerned about this, I tried to get him to drop for the price of a battery as I had a pretty hefty drive ahead of me......no go......nothing wrong with it he said.....so i did the deal....i wanted the car.......I asked for even a wee spurt of cash back for petrol but no. Quite adamantly and arrogantly, no. Dont take the car he said, pleanty of buyers etc. So off i went and got petrol, leaving the car running to do so might i add. After half an hours driving, I took a notion to turn the car off....but being the forward thinking chap I am, i chose to go to the nearest Halfords to do so. Good job too.......battery.....DEAD. So I coughed 80 quid and got a new battery fitted so I could get home. I guess what I am trying to get across is, Im not sure of the feedback to leave. I thought the fact that there was NO petrol in the car and an utterly dead battery was poor.......along with the dismissive attitude i was given. Im also cheesed off the the CD changer doesnt work and the auto lights are bucked (though I can use them ok on manual). Im sure he knew this......I dont think he was that thick. The seller also had the car listed as 2004 though i have recently noted that thius is the date of first registration....its a 2003 car......is he right to have done so? Doesnt annoy me that much though. I know I could have probably found this all out if I was given plenty of time with the car but I felt pressured into quickly deciding by the seller. Do I drop him a mail voicing these concerns and ask for some pony back or do i just leave him a bucket of shit feedback? Im keeping the car, thats for sure like..............the thing is facking clairvoyant and blisteringly quick. The drive from London to Carlisle was 'orrible.......but the "journey" from Carlisle to Stranraer was sublime.....the wee car ate the road. I just wondered what your thoughts on what I should do would be team? Cheers Jj |

for me thats def not as described as well as faults were not pointed out beforehand. he def took advantage of you travelling a long way and also rushed you into the sale with the time constraint.
but you must have been happy with the car and its niggles, hopefully you can get them sorted out without too much bother. congrats! |

Did you actually buy it offically through ebay?
If so, I would address is it all through the ebay communication channels, using the 'item recieved is not as described' process. It will ask what you want the seller to do about this and I would factor in some costs to rectify the undeclared faults, such as battery etc. Petrol is by the by as he is selling the car, not a tank full of juice so stik to the facts etc. You will have a period of cimmunication with the seller without ebay being involved, however if you are getting nowhere after 10 days you can escalate to an ebay case, where it will get assessed. All the communication will be visible to the ebay representative and they can enforce a decision. It could be they stick wih the seller - if so you won't get anything as their decision is final, but that is the line of attack I would follow at the moment. Come up with a justifiable amount of cash that you want - what would you have paid for the car without the declared faults? You can't expect a perfect car, as it is second hand, but he is a trader whih means he has more laws to stick to than your average joe bloggs selling his wife's motor! Maybe a mention of trading standards may get him nervous, especially if he isn't declaring his extra income - I think buying and selling more than 7 cars in one year counts you legally as a trader? |

I guess if he chumped up for the battery I would be happy.
Strictly speaking, I should have spotted the rest if given time and could have walked away even though it would have cost me a few bob. |

i thought the seller was supposed to send the v5 off to the dvla
id just do what wayne suggested, as long as you got the v5c/2 portion you'll be fine as thats the bit youre supposed to get when buying a car. |
