Wikipedia Panama Canal entry

in the wikipedia entry you can see how the lock are laid out on the map and how the ships traverse. lots of interesting information there.

also, the Panama Canal Authority website with the webcams also has a "How it Works" section.

i haven't received a peep of response out of the NYKLine RoRo folks.

in any case, i expect it will be flowing through around friday afternoon or saturday - i'm just guessing based on other transit times.

i just checked the Port Hueneme arrival schedule that was updated yesterday and we're still scheduled for a 1/15 arrival.

its interesting that there are now 2050 BMWs listed to be unloaed; there were only 1870 before. i wonder if the difference is the number of MINIs that were picked up in southampton - i can't imagine there's a BMW plant in the atlantic we haven't heard of...

Just came across your thread and I believe I am on the Centaurus Leader as well. (being that my salesperson told me that it was due to arrive in the US on the 15th of January... it finished production on 12/15/06)

I am counting the days with you...

The pictures of the ship leaving Germany are great! And I am hoping we catch a glimpse of her coming through the canal too...

I have to say, though, I am surprised that with nearly 2000 BMW's on this ship, we are apparently the only 3 from this forum with our cars on it!

i ordered mine on 12/2 and got a week 50 production slot - my dealer had one available. i'm not sure how the production slots work but since mine is a sedan it may have less demand.

i'm a bit surprised we're so light on e90posters as well. at least we're not alone!

there is a possibility that the Centaurus Leader snuck through the canal last night while i was sleeping. the Madame Butterfly is currently in the canal area and since its scheduled for Port Hueneme the day after Centaurus Leader i think we may have missed ours.

if i did miss it i guess that means its on schedule at least!

i think it went through the canal overnight - see post #33 above. unfortunately, i haven't found a schedule available to the public for the canal itself.

i was just looking again this evening and see that the madame butterfly still hasn't gone through so there is a chance our ship hasn't either. just a guess though. i'll watch a little tonite in case.

its getting really close - it looks like its time to put my old daily ride up for sale...

I saw this boat go through the canal earlier....I cant tell if it's ours but it sure loks similar.......

unfortunately, that wasn't it.

i just checked this morning before heading to work and i see it just came into the panama canal's cristobal anchorage. below is an AISLive pic of it from 0705 PST this morning. this is at least an hour behind so it may be making its way to the Gatun Locks by now.

if you want, keep an eye out again for it - i need to get headed to work...

i'll see if i can catch it when i get there and before my all day meeting.

ok - so now that its finally at the canal its gone and anchored!

it must be waiting for its slot in to make the passage - this is the part of watching that kills me.

i hope it gets underway soon or we're in real jeopardy of missing arrival at port hueneme on 1/15. if it leaves tonite and doesn't have to stop off at long beach or anywhere else i believe it will still be on time. of course, maybe i'm just rationalizing...

Kodiak, this is terrible news...........traffic at the canal is slowing us up.....Lets hope this tub can get a move on once through the canal.
