Yep, as everyone has already said, good luck Steve! Having not got any children I can't imagine what it feels like but it must be very exciting!

Good luck Steve!
Feel your pain on losing one - as you know we lost one at 12 weeks, one at 37 - the latter was a massive disaster. Now got a lovely 22 month old and at 15 weeks on our next one - like you each scan is a wind up but has to be done. I'm sure all will be fine - you have strong odds in your favour. Guess we'll both be Dads for the 2nd time (I think you already have one?) early next year if all goes well? Must have been something in the air a few months ago - three of my mates are also due around Feb 2011! |

Well, just back from the hospital and all is fine, thank goodness. That said it was almost a complete disaster; got to hospital with more than enough time to be told the sonographer was running massively behind schedule. So the lady at reception suggested we go and get the bloods done first. So up we went to get bloods done to be told "sorry, you cant do that, bloods can only be done after the scan!!" - i then politely told the nurse that we were expressly told to come up and that all would be fine. Finally she relented and took Louisas blood. Back down to have the ultrasound done and stood in a queue AGAIN to wait for another receptionist to check us in AGAIN. As we are stood waiting for receptionist to finish the longest phonecall in the world, i notice 2 people (obviously doctor types) leading a young couple out of one of the rooms, handing over a couple of scan pics and wishing the couple well. The 2 docs then proceed to lock the room theyve just walked out of and say goodbye to the receptionist. In the back of my head i think to myself "i hope these 2 are not the only docs able to do the ultrasound and dont realise that we are still waiting to have scan done??" - i tell myself not to be silly and i say nothing. The 2 docs disappear down the corridor and finally the receptionist finished the phonecall, looks at us and says "yes?" - to which we reply we are here for a scan. Ooops she says, theyve just left!!! None to happy i reply "Ooops, you'd better get them back asap then!!" - Several frantic phonecalls later we are told there is NO-ONE in the hospital left able to do the scan!!! Louisa starts to get tears in her eyes and i go into psycho mode. Due to the last miscarriages this scan was/is so important to us and obviously more so for Louisa. So i hit the roof and tell her in no uncertain terms she had better get someone in authority out here to speak to us immediately. 2 ladies come out and start to apologise in a vain attempt to make us feel better. It doesnt work. I tell her we are not leaving the hospital until someone is summoned to do the scan. Thankfully she could see i wasnt calling her bluff and was about to explode. Luckily a doctor was found and we had the scan done. However, she wasnt qualified to do the Nucal scan that tests for Downs etc - so all we had done was an anomaly scan to check heart was beating and baby had legs, arms etc. Thankfully it does and we sighed a very big sigh of relief. Pic below isnt great - shows baby with arms up to its face so looks a little odd! We have to go back Friday for the full Nucal scan and fingers crossed that will be ok too. Thanks again for all your kind words of support. Steve & Louisa.

Lovely pic! Nightmare that you didn't get the other tests done - don't forget you can get these done privately pretty swiftly if you wanted to accelerate! All the results etc get carried over to your notes. Glad all's looking good!

This is another advantage of owning a rental fleet, never having to actually buy my own MPV!

Glad the scan went well for you and Louisa. Fingers crossed for Friday - the wait is soooo nerve-racking but touch wood you'll be OK (I'm nervous for you at this end and have everything crossed mate).
Sorry a little late to the party; I've been away for a couple of days.

Hi Steve, great to hear all is well but am not surprised to hear about how you were treated for your last scan. My wife and I have had a devastating time over the last two years with similar so I know what you have been through and how nervous things must be now. I would recommend a private scan as they can offer more in depth tests with clearer results. We are now expecting again and our baby is due in 3 weeks time ....nervously excited.
