I'm sure these things will be fine.

I'm sure there is more R&D involved in higher priced pipes and better materials, but it seems that everyone forgets that 99% of us are not professional racers. I'm willing to bet that no matter what pipe we all get, they will outlast how long we keep the car... and we'll end up putting stock DP's on to sell the damn thing. Heck, if I buy these for 168 bucks and sell them for 100 bucks in a year when I dump this car I'd say I did pretty well for the gains I got.

If I was a professional racer and every hundredth of a second mattered, I'd spend more money on some AR's - but of all things I have a daily driven E93 - no race car by any means. I'm sure these will give me plenty of gains... maybe not the gains of a top dollar set, but no one will ever be able to feel the difference - only my ego, which is important to keep in check and to remain practical with a street car.

Hey, FWIW...

Here is my original "review" of them. They have been on the car ever since with absolutely no issues.

Wow, you really need to calm down. If you don't like them, don't buy them.

There are plenty (myself included) that could care less what these things look like (inside or out) as long as they do the job. And they do. For $198. Who's complaining?

Say they rust to shit, turn bright pink and start singing Justin Timberlake on repeat - it was only $198 wasted. That's a pretty good deal in my opinion.

Not exactly scientific, but I'll do some before and after runs with my Dyno App on my I phone to see if it measures any gains. Pipes are in the mail and I should have them next week. Ordering the DP fix now....

Not that I give a shit about these pipes, I am just giving my opinion on them....you can take it for what it is, but others welcome feedback like this while others like yourself couldnt care less, which is cool...but forums you would expect opinions!

But really what vendor do you know of that tells people that there is definitely rust and the welds are terrible?? If it rust inside dont you think it will eventually rust outside? There are people on this forum who care about their cars and own them and they are not leased....these are the people that wouldnt want a rust bucket pipe to be installed on their cars..I am pretty much done with this thread...

FWIW I like differing opinions as long as they pertain to the thread, even if they're negative critiques.

obviously the last batch wasn't top notch, but from when I emailed them they replied back with T-304 SS.

i wont speculate on thickness, or the weld quality, but its stainless, it doesnt rust, so i am going to assume they arent or werent made from stainless at all.

on the phone with them now, they say that the welds themselves are slightly rusting...

as a note, i'm just the messenger, i'm not pro or against Raceland.

Also as a note, this thread may help to clarify the weld rusting issue: http://cr4.globalspec.com/thread/132...-stain-removal

Stainless steel can rust... it just depends if it's surface rust that only affects asthetics or penetrating rust that will actually eat through the metal and cause holes and failures. Stainless steel can appear rusted and coroded, but it wont rust through and fail. Has there not been anyone on this thread that has had a gerber or smith&wesson knife with a sainless steel blade that gets rust spots??

there are so many different kinds of stainless, and of course different qualities of those different kinds. so one type of stainless may corrode, or stain, or maybe some really cheap stainless may rust, but the stainless they are claiming they are using should not rust, especially as fast as it seems.

as for your knife, i think you are seeing "stains" not rust spots, but i am no metal specialist at all, so i can be wrong

HOLD on, first of all no stainless steel should not RUST.

The point I was making is that the metal contained in the welds can. Therefore to clarify it is the sloppy welds in the description that are slightly rusted, not the downpipes themselves.

Stainless Steel can possibly STAIN, but it can be cleaned. Check this article: http://housekeeping.about.com/od/ide...nstainless.htm

Well, unless all of these vendors that make downpipes are doing metallurgy tests and posting the results along with bench flow testing to show the flow is actually good...and you can see the welding/quality...I wouldn't give much thought to the quality area.

Haha...

Definition: Stainless Steel is a metal alloy popular as a surface for sinks and appliances. Stainless steel is a great surface that doesn’t corrode or rust easily. Stainless steel is easy to sanitize and clean. It actually isn’t stain-proof, it simply stains less than other steel. Chemical residues, dirty water, and even hard water can leave stains and spots on stainless steel. It can also be dented and scratched fairly easily. Manufacturers are now offering new types of finishes that diminish scratching and fingerprints.

I think that the downpipe pricing on some of the vendors is really insane.

Headders on my built 331 stroker in my mustang were stainless, as was my exhaust, H pipe, etc. - they all got surface rust. Stainless can rust. I've never seen it eat through the metal, but mostly surface corrosion. First place it always starts for me has been on the welds.

Hell @ 170 bucks, you could buy 4 sets for the price of the "high quality". Im guessing 2 of the raceland sets will last you just as long the "high quality" ones.... Its all about the damn BMW tax and people trying to squeeze more money out of us cause we drive BMW's. Hell look @ the DCI's that are available of our engines as an example.. One of them is offered @ 195$ and a new one came on the scene and is offered @ 97$.

+1 hence, why not give the cheaper options a shot? Good for raceland for attacking the lower price market - we'll just have to see how they hold up but if they do, I expect a lot more people will be giving them a shot.

Also - They are all going to look like shit after a few years and no matter what, will probably outlast how long we keep the cars.. If you want your DP's to stay clean and pretty then you arent having enough fun in your car
