After almost nine months.... nothing.
So it comes to an end finally, but not with a desirable resolution.
Since last time, a totally new Alpine kit was fitted to the car. Unfortunately this did not solve the problems either and as such, I think BMW has just given up. The sound system is now back to stock and I will get a refund for the Alpine. Problem is... my PDC volume is still very low - has been ever since the Alpine was installed. I thought going back to stock may well solve the problem but it has not. BMW still has my car and says they will not give it back until they can fix the PDC volume problem. ..yay.. The Alpine certainly was better to listen to... it's just that there's no point keeping it if it can't even handle volumes which the base system could. I'm not sure whether I want to go aftermarket yet. I am not technologically minded enough to understand sound system information, and I think I would struggle in finding a suitable aftermarket solution. Also stopping me from aftermarket is the fact that warranty is not over yet. For me, the warranty is more important than the sound. I have also asked for a complete set of dates and service reports for when I went into the dealership (including the times nothing got done due to incompetency). I wanted the PUMA reports too (just for fun) but apparently they are for internal use only. Only plus point from all of this is that I get some money back for more mods... |

I'm not sure what sound system is in my car, but I'm more than happy with it.
I wonder if it is different to your stock sound system. Don't BMW use HarmonKardon as an upgrade??

The obvious test is turn it up and if it sounds crap, it is the base system
Otherwise check the door next to the wing mirror. Is there a tweeter there? (not the midrange speaker in the door, the tweeter next to the mirror). Next check the centre-top of the dash between the air-vents. Is there a centre speaker there? If you have the centre speaker, then you have the Harmon Kardon aka Logic 7 system. If you have tweeters but no centre speaker, you have the HiFi system. If you have no tweeters plus it sounds crap, you have the base system. BTW does your 335i have iDrive/Nav? |

I have the tweeters and iDrive/Nav
Not sure about the middle speaker... I think I just have the air vents. Sounds very nice and crisp at louder volumes.

The top of the dash (not the front of the dash which also has air vents) will have little speaker enclosure holes in it between the air vents if you have the HK/Logic 7 system. If it is just flat plastic, you have Hi Fi. Or just turn it up full and see if your ears hurt.
I didn't get iDrive/Nav and it's irritating me now. I can see in a year or so I'll end up trading the 330d for a 530d. |
