I think the RTA website has a complete camera listing with the tolerances for cameras, which is based on the number of accidents/fatalities in those locations.
As for police pulling you over, the tolerance is dependant on who you are, what you drive and the person who pulls you over. If you get caught on a double points weekend, don't expect to get off for anything. I'd say you would be fine for 5-8Kph over. 10 over and you will need to be lucky. 15-20 over and kiss your points goodbye unless there is a guy in a WRX doing 20Kph faster than you at the same time ;-) |

The traffic police are hypocrits. They pull you over for speeding and yet on quite a few occaisions I have been doing exactly the speed limit and been overtaken by a cop car going at least 10-20 over without a need to (no siren, no chase, nothing).
Was on the pacific highway and a V8 cop car went past doing about 30 or 40 over (for fun) and saw a cop doing 50 in a 40 school zone around Beecroft one morning. It's a shame they can't pull themselves over |

HAHAHAHA funny pic. Is that Australian?
Anyway what's the go with mobile/non-permanent units? Will they ever let you go by speeding and send you the ticket in the mail? Or will you always be pulled over if you're speeding? |

The only 2 ways you can legally be booked for speeding are:
1) being pulled over AT the time you are speeding and being shown a radar reading from a calibrated radar 2) being snapped by a fixed camera and subsequently receiving the fine in the mail If a cop pulls you over and doesn't have a radar reading on you, he will loose if it goes to court. Sometimes they will try to bully you into admission if they don't but NEVER give in, unless you don't value your points! |

on their radars, is the time logged as well? What's to stop them catching someone speeding, say 85km/hr in a 70 zone, and then pulling you over 15 minutes later, still with that speed of 85 km/hr on their radar (without it having been reset), and saying that was you doing 85 km/hr when in fact it was clocked 15 mins previously?

Yeah, this is an old thread revival..
Don't speed and then the whole topic becomes redundant! Or speed smartly, i.e. not around police or fixed cameras... I was once stopped and let off for doing 40 over by an unmarked- basically I was pretty apologettic and the cop didn't pressure me for an admittance - he didn't have a radar reading so it wasn't legit. There is NO magical rule of thumb. It depends on who you are, what you drive and who pulls you over. E.g. 19yr old male driving a hotted up WRX doing 10 over, pulled over by a 50 yr old cop who has been doing it for years is QUITE LIKELY to get booked!! If you want to presume you can do 5 over, then do it, but if you get stopped by a cop with a legit radar reading saying you were speeding 5 over, don't complain about the fact some bloke in a forum told you there is a 5Kph tolerance in NSW or something equallly silly. Every car's speedo runs to a difference tolerance so even IF everyone did an indicated 5 kph over, they would all be doing potentially different speeds anyway! |
