A Procede or JB3 car doesn't last more than 15 minutes at the track on a hot day before limping or drastically reducing power and I think it's because the N54 engine is just maxed out at those boost levels regardless of how much cooling is employed. I don't think BMW can do 3 liters/450hp (150hp/liter) with OEM sports car reliability at this technology point in time. BMW needs way more reliability than that.

My opinion...

the fact that the 1m will have an n54 means that you can solve the overheating issue with more cooling... Im interested to see what exactly they did in the cooling area

+1.. reliability goes down and the life of the turbos is drastically reduced.. sadly I know from personally experience

Agreed.

The only thing that is less appealing to me than a wheezy V8 without any grunt (S65) is an overcomplicated, high-boost-from-factory small-displacement turbo engine that runs a little hot. Mitsubishi and Subaru are the only ones who can pull that magic trick off.

Porsche does things right. Their GT1 engine is frigging bulletproof. But it has a lot less weight to haul around too, doesn't it?

The 1M tease shots are showing some heat exchanger surface in the drivers wheel well.

Can't wait to see the 1M solution to oil and water cooling of the N54 and figuring out the part numbers to order from Tisher

The next M3 was said to have a TT I6 so basically like the N55 but newer, extra turbo and probably a bit more tech w/ it.

As for the 1M... love it, but I wish they offered the 7spd DCT. And from the pics its gonna have a ton more cooling, and a pic or 2 showed an oil/somesort of cooler in the left side duct and huge fender vents/grills.

If they make a 1M with those power numbers, then it means they have to up the numbers on the M3. I just hope they put these cars on a diet, I'm tired of the M cars gaining more and more weight with each generation.

They are safer and safer too, and that gotta have some side effect. Goodluck with the diets, not likely to work. Unless you have an extra $25K for liposuction. And that is celebrity territory.
