Happy with upgrade
I just picked up my 2011 335i coupe with M-Sport, Nav and Exec. Packages with Individual Sound System (with Dirac Live Technology) - it sounds fantastic.

Did they change the bare bones stock radio to now include additional speakers and amp in post sept builds?

taibanl,
may i ask how you know the new base is Hifi? Thats for US 2011 335ds? cant find it on bmwusa It changes the uprgrade process for me (i think) if the base is Hifi rather than the old base. Last edited by rogerdiaz; 11-04-2010 at 07:43 PM.. Reason: question |

This is what we picked...
Rainbow SLC 210 upfront with CAL25 tweeter in BMW sails Rears remain stock driven off Headunit Zapco DC360.4 (90x4) Jehnert XE200 underseat subs 8" Symbilink and Technic's Harness Adding sound deadening Amp is going in either spare tire compartment or trunk sidewalls.

What are your opinions about the new stock system after the September changes (the former option 676)? Is it noticeably better than the former stock sound system that all early 2011 models have?
I am thinking about upgrading to Harman Kardon (option 688), but since it's almost 2000 eur (European prices ) I am trying to convince myself to stay with the stock system. |

no spare in the car...not even a tool kit.
i think putting the zapco in either trunk side wall was going to be looked at as a preferable option, with the spare compartment as the next option. he said the outlook wasnt good for the trunk wall but he would try. if it ends up in the spare compartment i'll just have to find another solution if i ever switch from run flats...

Thanks Tai, i sort of lucked out so far...
the 4 channel zapco couldn't even fit in the spare tire compartment let alone the the side walls (yes, just like everyone said). what 6spdcoupe ended up doing was mounting the amp to the underside of the rear parcel shelf inside the trunk 'ceiling'. Brilliant! Its out of sight, i get to lay my seats down for cargo, and the spare compartment stays open... im pretty stoked to pick the car up, maybe late tonight or hopefully tomorrow. still needs to finish the install, scope, and adjust the amp... fitting in the rainbow SLCs took some modding to the speaker housing itself in order to get them to 'drop in' on the E92 door panel (fwiw, on the E90 its not an issue).

It lacks in sub output, tonal clarity an higher outputs, and the soundstage isn't there. But as I said earlier, still better than most stock systems I've heard. I still will be modding it w/ a MS-8, 6-channel amp, and a 10"-12" sub in the trunk.
