Well true..

I mean..whenever I look into my rear view mirror I see strips of LED I say to myself Audi or MB..and when I see 4 rings AE, I think BMW..and yes I can tell if they're some cheap rice eBay headlight or really a BMW.

I guess what I'm saying is the AE..like a BMW trademark?
Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm here to learn as well.

i cant see why so many have a problem with these. they are far superior to the bmw pre lci drls and are in no way an attempt to be an audi/merc lookalike i like them!

Just sharing my install.
1) First, the brackets get secured. BMW recommended the portion below the bumper where there are holes in the grille. The reason this portion was chosen was because you need to run the cables through without cutting any holes.
2) Next, the LEDs snap into place. I did not take pictures of the cables and how they run because it is difficult to do so. However, I assure you that the cables were tucked away neatly.
3) I must say that this set of Philips LEDs picked by BMW as a retrofit part matches the bumper very well. See the nice curvature of the LED panel against the bumper.
4) See how they light up and shut. They function this way:
- Ignition on/ all lights off: LED on
- Ignition on/ side marker on: LED on
- Ignition on/ all lights on: LED off
- Ignition off: LED off (of course!)

I have also found out that you do not need to buy them from BMW though they are BMW parts. They are made by Philips Lighting and I believe you can find them on the web. Philips part number is 12810WLEDX1.

Have fun.

can you tell me which colour cable you connected the wire to on the sidelight, the one that switches the philips off when the car sidelights are switched on i just cant get mine to work properly thanks. the other thing with mine is that when you unlock the doors or open the door the philips drls come on and stay on after the door is closed for about 10 seconds im assuming the philips starter bow senses this and turns the drls on

Sorry can't advise as the audio shop guy wired it. From the instructions manual, you are supposed to wired it to the position lights.

god I hope bmw sees orion or oss setup and realize they should keep to the BMW AEs for any led upgrades and not copy every other german brand.

Looks pretty good - nice work!

Nothing wrong with implementing a styling cue that is also highly functional.

This is similar to a 3rd brake light, push button start, etc.

some ppl hate it, i think it looks excellent!. It's too bad I didn't find this beforehand. I ended up buying some cheap generic LED light strips that go on cars.

can someone advice on where to tap of power for these puppies?

alternatively, if I were to purchase the Philips / BMW set, how much do they cost, and where does power get tapped from? also, how would I sync it to my fogs, or DRL, or headlamps?

any advice is greatly appreciated!

Fuck I hate these led lights. Looks like pepboys ragged on the car. the only car that can rock the leds is audi. You drive a bmw, modify your halos. guys dont make your 40k+ car look like cheap. Save you money.

they dont connect to the headlamps but the sidelights (halos) when you turn the sidelights on it turns the drls off the other connections are positive to the battery and negative to an earth point or to the neg on the battery

These things got played out faster than altezza tail lights. I see more LED running strips on cars that didn't come with them stock than the other way around.

that makes sense

the LED DRL i bought only has a positive and negative terminal. I can't connect it to the battery as it would be on all the time.

I'm trying to figure out HOW to intercept the sidelights, or halos, or anything else. Its not obvious WHICH wire i intercept, and HOW do I tap it to connect the LED positive terminal.

any ideas?

if you have the bmw or phillips drls they have a control box which senses movement in the car and switches the drl on so the positive is connected to the battery to intercept the sidelights you take the plug off the back of the headlamp and find the wire to the halos, switch them on and put a tester in the end of the plug until it illuminates, then switch it off and try again if it is the correct one the tester should not illuminate, the idea is that when the halo is switched on it sends a signal to the control box which then turns the drl off.

didn't know the phillips box works on a sensor, that's actually quite smart. I actually didn't see the phillip LED DRLs until I bought a generic cheap set. The cheap LED lights just have a positive and negative terminal.

I'm trying to make do with the generic LED set i picked up for $60.

does the plug of for the halo / head lights have extra connectors where I can just plug in this LED wire without splicing any cables? does anyone know if this is possible?

is it hard to get to this plug? I did a quick search but didn't find any obvious answers to this

if you have just the two leads i think you will have to connect the pos to the halo wire with a snap connector and the neg to an earth but this means the drl will be on only when the halo is and all the time, the idea with the bmw one is that the drl is off when the halo is on ie at night. the plug is on the back of the headlamp and feeds the halos and the headlamps i will see over the next 2 days if i can see which colour the wire is, it may be better to get an auto electrician to do it for you will only take an hour or so.
