You are lucky the airbag didn't go off. A colleague recently had a pheasant hit his 5 series and the airbag and seat belt tensioner went off. In the confusion and trying to get to the hard shoulder with car full of smoke/chalk dust etc, glasses pushed off etc, he then caught the back of a lorry and was VERY lucky not to have been badly hurt. As it was he was very uncomfortable with bruising from the belt tensioner etc
