We're already friends IRL man, just not BFFs. BFF will happen when he adds me on PSN. Thanks for your concern though.

This guy has done the trick for the last 11 years.... Seriously the best defense. The house without the 100 pound Bulldog is just easier.

If that ADT sign in your front yard doesn't "scare them away".... lol When seconds count, the police are minutes away.
Buy a firearm and learn to use it. Then, after many many many trips to the range and taking it apart & reassembling, drawing & dry firing, reactive targets, moving targets, failure drills, etc... GET MORE TRAINING, i.e. learn to fight with a firearm. This is much different and may save your life and/or the life of someone you love. The Brady Campaign is a lie, that firearm is a million times more likely to protect you than harm a person in the household. Learn to use it. When so-called "antis" bring up that flawed Brady statistic, I like to respond: "Yes, someday I may be killed with my own firearm. But I will have to be beaten to death with it, because it will be empty." Silly hoplophobes... Someone posted a pic of a semi shotty above, which are great - love my Rem 1100. Some studies have shown that an intermediate rifle (e.g. AR, AK, etc.) are better for home defense (mag capacity, wounding ballistics, etc). But, this depends on your living conditions and skill level. House? Neighbors? Kids behind walls? Apartment? things to think about... Also, based on training/experience level, is a semi your best bet (longarm or otherwise)? idk, you can answer that. It might be best to consider a revolver or pump shotgun. Think about a 626 or a Rem 870. Keep the action simple (pump, revolver, lever, etc). It'll be easier to teach your wife and kids to use them safely and effectively. Handguns are great; but, they should be considered secondary always. A handgun is great for fighting your way to your longarm. But, it's a lifestyle trade off. The smaller, more concealable/"carryable" firearm in-hand is worth a lot more than the big one that you don't carry due to comfort issues. Everyone's situations are different; try them all. (and don't skimp on the leather, you didn't buy a BMW and put cheap tires on it) Above all, safety and training... if only two things can be considered, please make them safety and training. After that, the largest caliber that you can shoot well (in simulated real-life self defense training situations, not the range) and feel comfortable keeping on you at all times. The .380acp that your wife doesn't mind shooting is more valuable than the BrenTen 10mm that you thought was "cool" and gets left in the safe. God willing, you'll never ever have to use it. But, imo, it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Stay safe. -=- Mine vary, but it's almost always an XD with premium JHPs of some sort. But, I didn't transition to semis till "Tap, Rack, Bang" was well ingrained into my habits. Until then, revolvers... if it doesn't go bang, pull the trigger and try again. check out this forum for a lot of good info: www.PAFOA.org/forum you can find good deals on www.GunBroker.com. Remember that handguns and out of state longarms will have to be shipped to an FFL though, not your house. Last edited by ScaredOnce; 01-06-2011 at 09:34 PM.. |

Almost...........DEAD thieves are the answer,lol.
I like the idea of having a visual access from work......if a thief breaks in and you see him creeping your digs.....you choose a previously installed set of devices to END him.Mobile force if you will. "Officer...I'm not sure why I had that 2" thick steel plate resting above my safe like that.....what a shame he's unidentifiable". |

What kind of POS neighborhoods do you guys live in?
Seriously though, how many of you have had to put your gun(s) to use or your security system? Just curious to know... |

A good friend of mine has 9 IR security cameras around his house. My favorite is he has replaced his peephole with another wide angle, IR camera. He has several screens around the house, one of them in the main room easily viewable, and each of them displays all 9 cameras at once. It is impossible to even approach his house without being caught on multiple cameras recording to 2 hard drives.
Kind of baffling as he lives in literally one of the safest neighborhoods in the country, as well as being at the end of a col-de-sac and his house backs up to the lake. Better safe than sorry I suppose. |
