i got the letter for my 08
what do they do exactly? i have had the HPFP replaced a couple of times already - did not go in for the software thing when they called me in the summer since i thought there was a loss of power after the software update. does the car drive any different after the recall service is done?

Does anyone know how long is this recall valid/in effect for? Does it ever expire??
I'm actually considering not going in as my original HPFP is still working perfectly after 80,000km...I had the injectors, coils and programming updates 8 months ago and the car hasn't had any bad cold starts/misfires ever since...given HPFP history I'm not looking to fix something that ain't broke but at the same time if this recall will expire after a year or whatever I'd like to know that on time.. I'd really like to see if those that DO have issues with their HPFPs continue to have problems after going through with the recall.. |

I asked the dealer the same question they told me that the system will tell the SA if your vehicle falls under the recall. I would think there isn't an expiry date. Check with your dealer to make sure.

I got a phone today telling me there is recall on my 335i. I asked the SA is this the HPFP recall but she said no and its just some reprogramming. Not exactly sure what she was talking about. Does anyone else in GVA receive a phone call about the recall?

That's exactly what Parkview BMW (in the Toronto area) told me when my car was in for servicing a couple of weeks ago. They wanted to keep the car for an entire day.

The reprogramming is essentially the HPFP recall. It takes a day to complete and you may/may not have a replacement pump. The new software is meant to prevent HPFP failures so unless you have symptoms of a failing pump (long cranks at start up), the only change will be the ISTA update (to 2.40.2 or above).

Actually, I took my car in for service and the SA said I had 2 notices for recall, hpfp and software. Came home with loaner and I had a letter waiting from BMW regarding recalls. Going to pickup today from Richmond.

I have not received a recall letter or phone call yet for my 2009 335i.
I'm curious though. What's the point of even offering the "recall" if they don't have a permanent fix for the problem? The extended warranty I understand, but how is a recall applicable if the replacement pumps are no better than your original pump? Why would those of us that have a working-fine HPFP (which *might* fail someday) switch it out for another HPFP that's just as likely to fail? I don't see any advantage here. |

I think they will do 3 things for this recall
1. update the DME to the latest version 2. check your HPFP and replace it if necessary 3. check your fuel injectors and replace them if necessary. I personally don't have problem with my HPFP but did have injectors replaced few months ago and now the problem just came back last week. |

I have an 08 335 with about 18,000Km on it.
Had the injectors replaced but other than that have never experienced any HPFP symptoms. I'm always for the if it aint broke dont fix it theory so I'm just wondering if its worth taking the car in? Perhaps just for the software upgrade?? What exactly will that do??

had the fuel pump replaced and just got my car back yesterday....after 3 DAYS in service!
I dropped it off Monday morning and they originally told me I could pick it up same day afternoon....then later they told me there is some problem reprogramming the cars...etc I think the fuel pump was definitely about to go just before the service...the car was taking longer and longer to start especially in the cold. The cold start / long crank problem is now gone...... and maybe it is just in my mind, but the car feels smoother and faster now after replacing the fuel pump. The idrive system is also a bit different now..... - the audio playlist thing have a slightly different interface...(i prefer the old one) - the contact menu became "office" - The vehicle status/info is also a bit different |

When they did my idrive software upgrade, at first, the interface was like you mention...There was a menu choice for 'Office', News, etc.... But my Sat. Radio option disappeared....They re-did the update, and I am back to the original idrive interface. What should the new software update's interface look like? |

Had the software done a few weeks ago and the pump replaced two days ago. they also found a vacum leak with the blow off valve...
All in all they fixed it in a day and now the car feels smoother for sure (had not symptoms of the HPFP failure)
