the prices that these manufacturers/vendors charge for exhaust on BMWs just kills me. some people act like if you dont spend $1500 on a muffler your car is going to fall apart due to using "cheap parts" I loved my magnapacks on my 1998 roots blown Mustang GT w/ magnaflow X pipe. Had magnapacks on my 05GT as well, but it didnt sound quite as good. however, from the sound clips I've heard, I am not a huge fan of the magnaflows (or, unfortunately, most exhaust systems) on 335s. |

If you are really after cheap, try modifying the stock exhaust. Catless DP's or a full cat delete would probably give most most people plenty of sound and with the added bonus of improving performance. Easy to reverse too.

RPI or Vanguard or find a used AE / HKS unit
Those were the only exhausts that I was even considering based on sound.

Wow I thought someone would grill the poor guy asking for best and affordable exhaust. I applaud everyone's restraint so far
Frankly the options given are pretty accurate with the golf tee, magnaflow, borla or any high end used exhaust in that order of affordability. Now as far as best that's about as subjective is my dog is the cutiest dog there is. What are your criteria for best? Sound alone, looks or? If it's performance and that's the only mod you are doing save your money and do the golf tee and have some nice tips welded on, otherwise look at downpipes if performance is your quest. Good luck. BTW neither Borla or Magnaflow is cheap, as in junk, if you buy the right ones. |

Topspeed is pretty cheap and it makes your car pretty loud, but I hear a lot of people hate the drone it produces (Youtube it). I hear they're pretty cheap on eBay (like $500). I've been looking into the Remus Race exhaust which doesn't sound like it drones too much and it's not too expensive at just over a grand.

after listening to hundreds of sound clips of exhaust in the 1500 range, i felt the magnaflow had the best consistant sound on several applications, plus got it for 1200 installed

A good idea may be to look at some of the long time guys signature's and see what aftermarket exhaust they are running. Then, PM them and ask if they have regrets about it, if it drones, (If they say "no" - they're either lying, or, they're hearing impaired) ,and, if they would buy it again, or, buy another aftermarket exhaust that they've heard in person, or, stay stock or modified stock.
FWIW, I Love my AE exhaust... But, it was too expensive, it does drone, and, it makes my neighbors act passively aggressive. |

Akrapovic definitely not cheap but the sound and performance is AWESOME! It lightens car by about 15lbs too.

I'm pretty sure that Borla is pretty popular in the Italian sports car scene (if you care that much about perception of something thats not even going to be seen (except for the tips)
