Tire reviews... serious or scam?
Attention all who use the section “Tire Reviews” from the www.1010tires.com website to select their next tires. The evaluations are not very serious.
In February 2011, I used this section of the www.1010tires.com to check the comments and the evaluation given on the tires I have on my car which are Kumho Ecsta SPT (KU31). So on February 8th, 2011, I printed the page and kept in file the results of my selection made on the left hand side of the Web page. My selection was the following: “Tire Reviews » Passenger Cars » Summer » Ultra High Performance “. In February, the Kumho Ecsta SPT (KU31) tire had a rating of 3.8 with 90 evaluations (# of Rates). This week, a mechanic told me that some other tires like the Pirelli P Zero Nero or the Continental Extreme Contact DW were tires which could interest me the next time I need to buy summer tires. By curiosity, I went back to the 1010tires website to look up on those tires and noticed that several ratings had very important changes since my visit of last month. For example in February, the fourth best rating was the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 with a rating of 4.0 and 69 evaluations and in March, the same tire is now in first position with still 69 evaluations, but a rating of 4.6! In regards the Kumho Ecsta SPT (KU31) it went down to a 3.6 rating with the same number of evaluations, 90. What do we need to think about this? The ratings are influenced by the in-stock tires 1010tires has, the manufacturers influence the ratings by various strategies, the 1010tire team has changed its method of calculating the ratings… I do not, but I wanted to share this information I discovered by chance. |

I'm running the 225/265 set up. According to the calculator above, this is very close to factory diameter as you can get. Difference between front and rear is very minimal. Tirerack also recommended this sizing when I ordered my wheel and tire package. I have had no issues.

They do sometimes exhibit sorta "flat spots" when cold, meaning a little subtle vibration, but it goes away as soon as you've driven around the block and the tires have had time to warm up. Considering their price, I think they're a great bargain |
